Because as you get bigger and stronger you lose agility. Almost all pro sports are based on agility, not strength. Look at the difference in peak power lifting age vs weight lifting. Very similar sports, but one requires much more agility than the other.

Look at games based purely on skill. Golf, pool, dart, etc. Most players peak in their mid 30s.

Kids are also starting sports younger and younger with a focused intent today. It's not unusual to see kids specializing in one sport in primary school now, whereas thirty years ago they would have been multi-sport athletes and then chosen a focus in college or very late in high school.

There's a ton of athletes getting hurt much earlier as a result and getting washed out of the system earlier. ACL injuries in basketball for example have almost doubled since 2005.

Bodyfat lower than when I was younger ( around 12%). I'm clocking in at 237lbs right now.
Get hit on all the time by women half my age
Still lifting at my heaviest for some exercises like leg presses and bench. I haven't seen anyone in my gym do the weight I do on leg presses, rack pulls... not even close.
Retired at 48 and work pt because I want to
No debt, own my home on 75 acres, cars etc. Only debt is a top of the line 4k TV I bought 2 years ago.



Right shoulder is beginning to bother me though...


BTW, you can't compare average joe to athletes, who put their bodies through way more punishment than any of us ever will. Its silly to compare a linebacker or boxer to a office worker who lifts 3 or 4 times a week.
