DeSantis changes his tune on Ukraine, calls Putin a 'war criminal'

WASHINGTON — After having downplayed Russia’s war against Ukraine as a “territorial dispute” in remarks to Fox News, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis changed course in a new interview by calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “war criminal” who needs to face consequences for his actions.

“I think he is a war criminal,” DeSantis told Piers Morgan in an interview published Wednesday in the New York Post, adding: “I do think that he should be held accountable.”

DeSantis argued that his earlier statement to Fox News host Tucker Carlson had been “mischaracterized” and that his “larger point” was that he doesn’t think Russia can “take over Ukraine” or “threaten NATO” even if the U.S. doesn’t escalate its involvement. He said he wasn’t suggesting Russia’s invasion was justified.

“I think they have the right to that territory,” DeSantis said of Ukraine. “If I could snap my fingers, I’d give it back to Ukraine 100%."

Politics aside, Even race aside, Jews make up 5% of the voting demographic in Florida, Yet one of his main concerns is making it a Jail sentence to say anything negative about the Jews?

How did the "hawks make him take a u-turn?" Looks like he was rightly clarifying what he meant by "territorial dispute". I think he was right for clarifying what he mean. He didn't revise anything else from this statement (which was conveniently left out of the OP)
DeSantis said in a statement to Carlson published March 13: “While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural, and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them.

The CIA operates from Switzerland, it's not actually American.

He walked back the Tucker interview. He literally says it's not a territorial dispute and that Putin needs to be held responsible. This is what Biden says. All of this after the ICC issued a warrant for Putin.

Simply put, when the Hawks pushed, he didn't push back.

Where did he walk back the Tucker interview? He mischaracterized an invasion as a territorial dispute and then corrected himself and clarified that it is a war and that Putin is a war criminal (he is).

Calling someone a war criminal who should be held responsible doesn't mean that you're pro-getting involved in a war directly.

Trump literally called the Ukraine war a genocide a day after Biden called it a genocide. That's far more hawkish than anything Ron has said.

He didn't mischaracterize the invasion, all his previous statement were that Ukraine is a territorial dispute. He changed after getting blowback this week.

As far as monetary support, the jury is still out on that. I don't think Trump ever put out an official stance on that one either.

Everything else is just hysterics. You can't say that the hawks made him take a u-turn on this, because he 100% did not.

In fact, some of the biggest hawks (Like ****guete Graham) have enthusiastically endorsed Trump.

The world's largest economic superpower just fortified diplomatic ties with Russia, they aren't going to break anytime soon.
