Define best.

Best technical?

Drew the most money?

Most charisma?

Best sports entertainer?

A mixture of the above?

There are a few favorites, but no obvious guess...it would be fun to see what wrestlers make advance, by what margin they win their battles and what the final looks like.

Depends on whatever criteria the poster/poll caster wants to use (could be anything), could be one criteria, a combination of more then 1 criteria or a combination of everything....ideally combination of everything, ideally the best wrestler should win and not the poster's favorite one.

Combining everything, ability, character, crowd working, impact for the business, etc I'd go with either Austin or Hulkster. You could make an argument for The Rock or Undertaker as well but Hogan made the WWF mainstream and Austin brought it to another level.

The tournament will start after Wrestlemania 39, to not to interfere with WM 39 discussions.

HBK seems to do well at these seemingly annual polls for best ever, but assume Hogan or Austin will take this.

Randy Orton, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar would not have been part of such poll of total 16 entrants 5 years ago.

Things change with time. It would be interesting to see if Brock Lesnar would trouble few of those favorites.

But he is there because he is made to be like this and is the only megastar of the latest/current era. (Not counting Lesnar because he is/was a part-timer).

Still he has achieved a lot more then CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit and Seth Rollins in WWE, so Reigns gets to be added to the poll.

If reigns was around in the attitude era he'd have the same role as a guy like Test (remember him? Barely)

I remember Test.

Back then in attitude era, Reigns would have been over-shadowed by other megastars like HHH, Austin, Taker, Rock in their prime. When Reigns was being pushed in WWE after 2015, he was actually helped by HHH, Lesnar and Taker (who kind of wanted to pass on the torch, as they had achieved much in WWE already).

WWE had to create megastars in the new era anyways, so they thought Reigns was their go-to-guy.

I wouldn't even consider HHH a megastar. He's just a jobber who married into the ownership group. As a wrestler he's chit.

Nor Undertaker or HBK. I guess you could say Flair was a megastar during the NWA days or as much of a megastar you could be in those days.

Hogan and Austin were so far away from the rest of the guys, it's hard to put them in the same category.

Undertaker was a legit champion, I didn't really care for his gimmick, but he certainly had a presence on the mat. HHH and HBK were smaller guys with nothing but plot armor making them champions.

Take out Roman and replace with Flair

Take out Jericho and replace with Bruno

Take out Edge and replace with Piper. Only because Edge's legacy has gone down the toilet. Would have been okay for a short return a couple years ago against Randy, but he's sticking around way too long and taking a lot of losses and looking bad.

Yeah I was thinking about missing Flair in that list, but he had a very short run in WWE with not 'enough' timeframe/matches/good matches to be considered for selection in the top 16. But if we were discussing WWE/WCW/NWA combined then he would definitely be up there.

How could I not add Jericho to that list? I followed him all the time right from his debut in WWE till his match with Edge at WM26. He was part of so many good matches/feuds/storylines. Such a long entertaining career at WWE. Bruno was good, but he is mostly remember for his long world title reign, just not enough of him in WWE to be considered for top 16 selection.

I would say same for Edge, like I said for Jericho. Sometimes quantity wins over everything and Edge and Jericho have produced lots of good content in their long careers at WWE. Piper was good, but there's just not enough of him or good enough of him in WWE to be considered for top 16 selection.

He was definitely in his own league. I'd put him under Hogan and over guys like HHH for sure. Reigns... not sure he's in the conversation, but I stopped watching WWE years ago.

I know HHH is not a megastar. But sometimes quantity and longevity wins over everything and he headlined so many PPV's, maybe more then anyone else. Apart from that his ability to play feuds and storylines was exceptional. Also he was the best at helping emerging wrestlers get over and playing the stable member role (DX and Evolution).

Reigns is in the list notably for his work/popularity in the last 3 years.
