TL;DR: Weekly hip hop album review club where members vote on albums to listen to and review. Members will will get to suggest their own albums after week 3. Polls are on discord and will operate weeks in advance. PM for link. Review dates will be Fridays from the 7th of April onwards and reviews will be posted in this thread. Reviews can be short or long.

Does anyone want to be part of a misc hip hop album weekly review club?

Just an idea I had. It might not seem like the most natural fit for this forum, but I think it would be fun. You can be a hardcore fan or somebody who wants to explore the genre more.

Ideally there’d be a group of around 5-10 miscers (but the more the merrier) who each week listen to the same hip hop album and then will offer their thoughts on it. Just rate each song between 0-5 (you can use .5s) and then rate the album as a whole. You can go into more detail if you like but if you want to keep it simple that’s fine.

After you have posted your review, you can suggest an album to be reviewed. To start with, I have created three lists, but week 4 (and hopefully each week afterwards) will consist solely of albums that users have suggested. We will all vote and then listen to the one with the most votes.

I still have to work out the kinks but if we aim to post our reviews for the chosen list 1 album by Friday the 7th of April, that will be great. The next review date for the chosen list 2 album would then be Friday the 14th of April, and so on.

I suggest we stick with albums mostly from the 90s or from rappers/groups from the 90s, but it will be good to mix it up now and again. I just think people might lose interest if we flip flop between golden age and modern times. Different crowds.

To avoid manipulation of the polls, I have created a discord server where there will be a room purely for the polls. PM me for the link. We will still post our reviews and talk about the albums on the misc. I thought about this for a while and discord seems like the fairest option, but it means you’ll have to create an account if you don’t have one. Just go into the “polls” room and react to the letter corresponding to the album you want to vote for. I can’t figure out how to limit it so that people can only choose one letter, but it’s easy to see if people have voted for more than one album. If so, I’ll just randomize their vote.

Using the poll system, we can vote and have albums picked two or three weeks in advance, and that way, we will know which albums are coming up, and people will have more time to listen to them as they may have a lot of free time one week but none the following week. The format isn’t perfect but if anybody has any better ideas then I’m all ears.

I came up with this list in around 10 minutes

your lists are 2 long, you need to shorten them like a book club...

1-3 albums....no one is gonna critically listen to that many, Sure I do but I'm a super weird audiophile nut job with 500 cd's and 200 LP's and listen to music non stop

So 5 in a list instead of 10? 10 in a list at least gives a bit more variety.

People would only be expected to listen to 1 album per week and that album would be the one chosen from the list.
