I finished The Meaning of Anxiety by Rollo May. Another 10/10 book by him I'm a fan, srs. I would absolutely recommend reading it to anyone who feels like they have some apprehension in life or feel they are being held back by something within themselves.

Finished book 2 of Mistborn, The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson. Loved it, I think i liked it better than the first book. Already a few hundred pages into book 3.
Probably going to throw a non fiction book into the mix after I finish mistborn.

Finished Diodorus Of Sicily books 16-20 (Phillip, Alexander, and the successors), pretty good, 4/5, especially enjoyed learning about the wars of the diadochi, although it ends before properly describing the Battle of Ipsus which is a bit annoying. Also learned much about Phillip i didn't know, making me more convinced than ever he is underrated by history. I've already read so much on Alexander himself so there wasn't much new here.

I'm nearly done wtih Adrian goldsworthy - kings and conquerers - phillip and alexander and i have to say i'm impressed, especially by his care and attention towards Phillip which i have not seen elsewhere, at all. I tend to prefer classical historians and not love 'modern' historians, but i enjoyed Adrian Goldsworthy so much i picked up his book on Augustus to read int he future.

Now i'm reading "Dividing the spoils" by Robin Waterfield which is another book on the war of the diadochi.

I've never re-read a book until now.

I'm re-reading "Why We Drive" by Matthew B Crawford.

So good. I just finished a chapter that I have no memory of reading the first time. It's on kindle so I have been highlighting more the second time reading it.

I might re-read his other book "Shop Class as Soulcraft" because it was also incredible.

Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson done, completing the Mistborn trilogy. What a ride, it was a great story. never thought I'd rip through over 2000 pages so fast. I'm definitely going to read more of Sanderson's work at some point, but time to throw in some other stuff that's been on my list. Untethered soul by Singer is up next, then I might dive into Mythos and see what Fry is all about since I've always loved the greek myths.

I just finished another book that is a good remedy for this issue as well. The book is The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It's a good kick in the ass if you're looking for something as such to get you started with something you have been putting off for awhile.

Just finished The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. another non ficition / self help / enlightenment kinda book. Very easy read, but it was some damn good insight and techniques for dealing with anxiety, and your internal voice that doesn't like to shut up. highly recommend!

Got a nonfiction rec for you bros: Existential Physics. The author is a dedicated physicist who sets out to answer the biggest questions of all using what we currently know about science. As a deeply religious person who considers science an amazing gift that lets us learn more about God and the way He designed our universe, this fascinated me. The author is not religious at all, and writes from a purely scientific perspective, but writes in a way that acknowledges that the scientific method in and of itself is not enough (yet) to satisfy our curiosity.

As you would expect, this is not beach reading. But for those willing to engage with what's being presented I can't imagine regretting reading it.

I recently finished Shop Class as Soulcraft because I saw it recommended somewhere and I'm 99.5% sure it was by you. If so, I owe you a beer. Wonderful book, and it sounds like I need to read Why We Drive soon.

The last fiction I read was the Mistborn Trilogy, too! I just finished book 4 (book 1 of the second trilogy) - it's tonally very different from anything else I've read from Sanderson but highly recommended - def check it out bro.

Update

Finished "Phillip & Alexander - kings & conquerors by Adrian Goldsworthy" - Really excellent, 5/5. Adrian Goldsworthy specialises primarily in roman history, but he brings a level of detail and rigour that is rare, and his account on Phillip is especially good.

Finished "Diving the spoils - Robin Waterfield" - 4/5, pretty good account on the war of the Diadochi which can get a bit complicated with all the threads going on. Well structured but it does lack some detail, but at least it actually covers all the way to the end (i.e to Angtigonus II gonatas on throne, son of demetrius the besieger) instead of ending right before the battle of Ipsus as diodorus of Sicily did.

Also read & finished "River Out of Eden - Richard Dawkins" - 4/5 - pretty standard dawkins evolution book but enjoyable nonetheless.

Book 27: The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie (First Law Trilogy Book 1)
A great, dark, violent fantasy book. Felt more like a big prologue to something bigger... Awesome characters introduced, and a few story arcs with them, but no one big overall plot (yet?) Anxious to dive into the second book, but it didn't arrive in time so I started something else.

Book 28: Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
AWESOME book. Horror that takes place during the black plague times in medieval France. Disgraced knight that was ex-communicated from the church who ends up as caretaker for a young girl who has visions of angels.
heavy on Christian religion as it was so prevalent at the time, but it fits nicely into the story. Some of the chit people are doing to survive which was basically the apocalypse to them. Angels and demons were almost an undertone for the first part of the book, but there is some supernatural stuff. Things get wild and crazy intense by the climax. Highly recommend if the plot line sounds up your alley. read the whole thing in one day over the weekend hah

I've started reading The Idiot by Dostoevsky. I'm really digging this book; I have a real hard time pulling myself away from it. I'd say it's a much easier read than Crime & Punishment and The Brother Karamazov, but that's not because it's a more simple book; I think it's just more interesting. I guess the prose is much more intriguing to me? I dunno. Only like 100 pages in tho.

#29: A Road to Character by David Brooks. short one to fill the gap while I waited for some other books to arrive.
It had a good premise and came highly recommend, but I didn't really enjoy it. I'm glad it was short, because only 270 pages was a slog for me.

It started great, the intro breaks you down to what he calls Adam I and Adam II, Adam I is the career driven, goal orientated, self serving self. Adam II is the internal one, the one with morals, the one who wants to give, to help others, looks for deeper meaning in life.
After the into, each chapter for the remainder of the book was about a historical figure's life and how trails and hardships changes their views of life and their actions. Then a brief mention of Adam I and Adam II before moving onto the next person. I'm not big on biographies, so that's probably why this was tough for me.

Anyhow, my delivery arrived and I dove headfirst into book 2 of the First Law this morning, loving Abercrombie's stuff so far

Anyone read Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett? It has a unique magic system in it thats really cool thats like programming. Anyways the main character is a psychic thief and she pulls off big heist which get her into a lot of trouble. The story plays out from there.

In terms of raw power, Founders Trilogy (Foundryside trilogy), scales immensely, you get a real sense of danger within reading the book.

awesome book, loved it! It made sense that book 1 seemed like a prologue: all the characters and little story lines really started coming together in this book. Violent, gritty, characters and settings are fantastic... Already halfway into book 3, this series is kickass. Liking it better than Sanderson's Mistborn

Joe Abercrombie has a second series set a few decades after the first law series that are excellent as well. I read those last year and highly recommend them too!

Yikes, I have been slacking. I'm about halfway through the book now, and it's great. Not to denigrate it but this book is so far the most readable Dostoevsky book I've encountered. I would recommend, absolutely. Will update when I finish it

#31 done, Last Argument of Kings finishing off the First Law Trilogy by Abercrombie.

Incredible series, very character driven. No clear cut evil villain, no hero on the white horse. All the characters are flawed and have a wonderful human quality about them. It makes it very easy to relate to them, plus you find yourself going back and forth between loving them and hating them.
I'll definitely read more of Abercrombie's work later this year
