Is this the death rattle for McDonalds?
Unless they reinvent themselves I don't think they stand a chance. They employ the most apathetic workers who close early, their food is inedible, menu sucks.

Well they are facing some real challenges. So far they have been able to hike prices regularly to maintain profits and for a good chunk of time they were one of the only hot and ready food options in many areas [pandemic].
Now they are facing more competition, higher beef prices, and consumers with less cash to spend on convenience meals.
Over the past few years they have moved to a simpler menu with less options [at least IME]. They should probably pivot to more food items with less expensive ingredients that can be prepared in central commissaries and delivered ready to eat or close.
The general public appears to have decided that the fake meat is gross and not worth it. Maybe they will try actual veggie burgers, as in made from beans/oats/etc. A McFalafel sandwich could do well in some markets.

I like how they make them work from home so they can fire them via Zoom. That really cuts down on the workplace mass shootings.

Restaurants are the first bellwether of the recession. Once people stop eating out the economy starts its nose dive.

I've traveled extensively, and McDonald's is the most popular restaurant chain I've personally witnessed worldwide. Their stock is shooting up right now.
This is likely just a cost cutting measure for them. Getting rid of old people with high incomes in Chicago whose jobs should have been eliminated a decade ago, and finally they now have cover to do it without looking bad.

I just looked at their financials, 2021 was their most profitable year ever recorded.
2022 their total revenue came down only 0.17%, but net income dropped 18.13% year over year.
So overall, people are still eating there, but it looks like there is some kind of employee bloat.
Luckily for McD's, AI will easily do the work of cubiclecels.
EDIT: ^^^ oliver the wizard.

As long as dumb asses buy it, there will always be a seller.
It's not like they're concealing it either. They might have in the past, but now it shows right on the menu: FOOKING 1800 CALORIES FAT ASS. 120 GRAMS OF SUGAR YOU DIABETIC FUK. LIKE 50 GRAMS OF SATURATED FAT? WE GOT THAT TOO BITCH.
People still line up like monkeys waiting on a banana.
