Is Trump being the R nominee a disaster?

Was talking to a few boomer republicans who said they will NOT vote for Trump in 2024, pushing their votes to independent or staying at home

What % of republicans do you think are in this category?

If Desantis is the nominee, would the % of MAGA not voting be the same?

If DeSantis is the nominee, it would be a coin toss general election. The power of the incumbency is real and sitting presidents are very hard to beat.

If Blumpf is the nominee he'd be absolutely destroyed in a landslide.

He has a ton of baggage -- the impeachments, the Jan 6th riot, the indictment(s), the election fraud stuff with Sidney Powell and Rudy

But the tricky part is that he's very strong in a Republican primary, as he has an enthuiastic fanbase. The general election vs Biden is where he will get beat.

I actually like Mike Pence. I think he's an intelligent, non-offending figure who can work with both sides and avoid making the party look bad. He might do well with moderates in a general. But his chances in the primary are slim because the MAGA supporters want to hang him.

DeSantis might be good too.

Overall though: Repubs have a huge issue in the suburbs, costing them Georgia and Arizona (and soon Texas). They need a candidate who can stop the bleeding there

He already beat Blumpf when Blumpf was the incumbent. Now Brandon has the incumbency advantage against an indicted twice impeached election denying insurrectionist.

All Brandon has to do is hide in his basement again and let Blumpfie do all his campaigning for him.

Pence is too Jesus-y and a milquetoast personality. Desantis does outrageous things for propaganda sometimes to throw red meat to the mouthbreathers in the GOP base, but his record of actual governance is pretty good.

Biden is a worse incumbent policy-wise for me, but if we're looking at it from an electability perspective then Trump is the worst by far.

Does that mean 35% wonโ€™t vote for him?

Even if 35% of democrats donโ€™t want Biden to run again, they will still vote for him if he was the nominee

I hope Trump doesn't become the nominee. The primary is a long ways off still. At the moment though many conservatives are understandably rallying around Trump. What the New York DA is doing is not good for anyone.

I believe if Trump is the GOP nominee, the GOP is screwed. As the face of the party, Trump has dragged down the GOP in the last 3 elections.

The true disaster is out of millions of US citizens, we have three useless meatsacks running for the presidency. One is alive and dead at the same time, one is a career scam artist and the other is an angry Karen focused on minuscule chit.

Truly a dam shame.

Ok, fine. If you're only allowing delusional authoritarian conspiracy wingnuts in the GOP now, that will hopefully allow someone like Amash to get a significant foothold in the conservative movement as a Libertarian or independent. Marginalizing the cultist nutcases is critical to the future of the country, whether it's done within the GOP or outside it.

Thats true for every (R) since 2004.

Fun fact: Trump did win the 2016 popular vote...with American born voters.

That said, IMO Trump has a much harder ceiling, electorally speaking, than maybe someone like DeSantis.

No one wins here except for those who permanently control power.

It would be a disaster if the voters want Trump but he is not the nominee.

It is a disaster if Trump is the nominee while under criminal indictment as it will influence the general election.

This is being framed as dems trying to help Trump get the republican nomination but Trump didn't and doesn't need help with that.

This is about interfering in the 2024 general election because Trump appeared inevitable.

As a democrat, this means you can't choose "People's Candidate" either.

Trump looks inevitable for another L. Yes. Republicans have been performing below expectations in the last 3 election cycles with this clown as their figurehead leader. He somehow even turned Georgia and Arizona blue in federal elections. Lulz.

Arizona and Georgia went blue in 2020 and both have 2 Democrat Senators (and AZ has a Dem. Governor). Trumpers' response? "Let's try with Trump again!!!!" and then they wonder why they are called cultists lol

Trump gained 11 million votes between the 2016 and 2020 elections, he has also gained support against Joe Biden since the 2020 election, Trump has expanded his support every cycle.

You can't deny that this indictment helps the democrats politically.

Trump performed well in the 2018 midterms as well.

Anybody who runs with an R next to their name is going to be made out to be as bad or worse than Trump.

Rest assured whoever wins the nomination (assuming it isn't Trump) there will be some headline of "Why _____ is worse than Trump." Left lunatics will eat it all up too and in no time flat that person will be literally Hitler and anyone wearing or displaying anything supporting that person may as well be wearing a KKK hood.
Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

Performance and performance alone dictates the predator in any food chain.
