Biden Admin cucks US and world on oil

https://www.reuters.com/business/ene...ts-2023-04-02/

1. OPEC+ is cutting by 1.16 million barrels per day after Russia independently announced cutting 500,000 bpd in early March, and after they all cut their production by 2 million bpd back in October.

2. Saudis led the cuts because they're were pissed after US Energy Secretary Granholm (who knows absolutely nothing about energy) last week very publicly specified the US govt wouldn't be buying oil to fill the half depleted Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Immediate backfire. Oops.

3. Japan is buying Russian oil above the discounted price cap ($60/barrel) on Russian oil set by the US sanctions.

4. Western nations have still been buying lots of Russian oil. Some directly, a lot through intermediaries like India at a higher price than $60/barrel. Also lots of vessel to vessel transfers in international waters, away from scrutiny, allowing Russian oil to still be used, by less efficient travel than pipelines.

If only the Republicans didn't vote for an indicted criminal, we wouldn't have this "perceived" problem.

The world set a record in coal usage last year. Over 8 billion tons. That was unsurprising after Germany, the manufacturing powerhouse of Europe was forced to burn A LOT more coal after the US moves did actually cut off a lot of Russian natural gas.

-But you should eat zee bugs, Dutch farmers should be punished for being so productive....cuz, like climate change and stuff. It's all the same control-hungry people causing these same problems. Pure hypocrisy. Whatever convinces people to give them more power is the priority.

The inditement happening recently and after 6 years of thorough investigation that showed nothing.

Not a fact check at all. Talking out of both sides of their mouth. The Biden Admin said it would fill the SPR at oil below $72/barrel. Prices already went below that for about half of the last 4 months and instead of buying they kept taking oil out. Granholm said we would take many years to fill the SPR back up, which has angered the Saudis.

If the government isn't buying at $68 like they promised they aren't buying when it's $90-110 this summer and $80-90 this upcoming fall and winter. The only way it goes below $72 is with a global recession, so if that doesn't happen, filling the SPR isn't either.

What bicycle do you use? I wish I could get by on a bicycle and/or public transportation but it's not possible.

Even though Tesla is offering big discounts a Model 3/Y doesn't work for most families. The Model X costs as much as a Porsche SUV and has too many problems which is why they don't sell. 97% of their sales this year are the Civic sized Model 3/Y.

EVs won't become big until alternate batteries (ceramic based with more common materials) are used, preferably ones that don't have us heavily dependent on China.

I'll give some credit where due. Biden just opened up leases in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska he originally shut down. Those aren't like shale that can come online quickly, they'll take years to get flowing. So those will help in another decade or so, like actions of previous administrations. Reality has a way of waking people up to pragmatism.

Any Dems considering running in 2024 can use those leases against him. The small but vocal Greens won't be happy if they learn these facts. It does nothing for us now though, which is why OPEC+ removing over 3% of global oil supply in 6 months is raising prices for at least a few years. Goldman upped their price forecast for 2023-24.

Biden lovers may bump this thread if a banking and manufacturing crisis cause oil to slip via global recession, but that's hardly something to celebrate just to say "ah hah, see you were wrong" while ignoring the 10% unemployment.

That time of year again to start bitching about summer gas prices, $35 steaks and the impending collapse that never happens.
