Sure you'll get dismissed if the judge thinks you can't provide a unbiased opinion.

But try going in front of the judge, with all those people in the room staring at you, and all the police officers, lawyers, etc and just blatantly tell the judge that you're racist. See how you feel about doing that

I'll bet you like littering too because F being told to use a garbage can put there by "the man."

OP,
Jury duty is great. If you've ever watched Law and Order or any court movie you are in a front row seat for your own personal trial and all the lawyers and judges speak directly to you and show you all the evidence. It is actually a lot of fun and really interesting.UNTIL.....you get in the jury room and deliberate. Then you are stuck with a bunch of overly biased morons who can't use logic or reason. I drank heavily when I got home from that day of jury duty. The rest was cool and if you are on salary you'll probably get a free day off with pay and just have to turn in your $15 jury duty check to your work.
Dude you just listed a bunch of reasons for why you SHOULD get out of jury duty. Most trials last more than 1 day as well.
Not worth the $15.

Because the 13th Amendment abolished involuntary servitude.
IDK man, just lie to get out of it and you won't have to worry about some "involuntary servitude" bs

If they allow a written response, just put "if the glove don't fit you must acquit."

More people should realize that jury duty infringes on our 13th Amendment.

Sweet 13th Amendment.

Isn't the judge suppose to stand for justice?

Who was 13th amendment?

What kind of judge rounds people up like it's auschwitz?

So the judge infringed on their rights and also bitched them out?

Yes, hence why I listed the neat things and then countered it with my frustrations. Try getting a position that pays you a salary and then you don't have to worry about the $15 pittance. I got paid for all three days on the jury at my normal rate. It was a free vacation day and I got off earlier than I normally would at work....except for the last day with the deliberations. Dude was totally guilty, I caught him on a number of lies in his story. But when you have people with you on the jury that said "I just don't like the police and I don't trust them so I'd say not guilty no matter what."

I've gotten the letter to appear 6 times but never selected for the actual jury. I am lucky to have family that works higher up in local law enforcement and prosecution so I am booted out of selection pretty quick.

You will have to answer a bunch of questions about yourself and who you know. If either side doesn't like you answers you will not get picked.

It's less than minimum wage here. Total slave wage.

But even if they paid you $100 per day, it is still involuntary servitude.

Do you think forcing people to do jury duty is fair?

The Supreme Court has long held that the "involuntary servitude" prohibited by the 13th Amendment was intended to extend "to cover those forms of compulsory labor akin to African slavery which in practical operation would tend to produce like undesirable results." Butler v. Perry, 240 U.S. 328, 332 (1916). Jury service is hardly that. More specifically, the Court has recognized that “the prohibition against involuntary servitude does not prevent the State or Federal Governments from compelling their citizens, by threat of criminal sanction, to perform certain civic duties. See Hurtado v. United States, 410 U.S. 578, 589, n. 11 (1973) (jury service); Selective Draft Law Cases, 245 U.S. 366, 390 (1918) (military service); Butler v. Perry, supra (roadwork).” United States v. Kozminski, 487 U.S. 931, 943–4 (1988).

It had been an ongoing issue and the judge had enough. Judge called it contempt of court. Made a big show if it to the press. It was fuking dumb. Judge just had to wave his dick around.

Just go and do it.

If you don't go, you have to STFU about the criminal justice system in future.

It's like people not voting and then complaining about politicians.

Voting is voluntary.

Jury duty is not.

You really have 3 options..

1) Act like you never received the jury summons
2) Hope it gets excused
3) Show up and act like you care and hope you don't get selected.

I went and was the only one not selected out of the first twenty-something jurors. Pretty sure it’s because one of the defense attorneys asked about how we felt about government regulation and I was the only person that went up to speak my opinion when offered and I went on a pseudo unhinged miscer anti-government rant on the microphone.

Is option 1 legal?

Do I have the right to remain silent?

"the prohibition against involuntary servitude does not prevent the State or Federal Governments from compelling their citizens, by threat of criminal sanction, to perform certain civic duties."

How is that constitutional? Explain

Because it would seem that's exactly what the 13th Amendment would protect us against.
