Very trendy. Genuine numbers are maybe 0.1%. Trends come and go. I knew people a decade ago who said they were "a citizen of the world" because they had angst against the US. Nobody says that corny crap anymore. Emo was a trend before hipsters. In part of the 80s and 90s there was goth. If you read old magazine columns and watch some of the movies from the late 70s to early 80s there was a movement for men to "get in touch with their feminine side" and label themselves as sensitive, so they did. Guys would proclaim they were sensitive and cry, because it's what the feminists of the time brainwashed women into thinking it's what they wanted from men. It was an epic fail. After almost a decade of women pretending it's what they wanted it faded, so men stopped pretending to be poosays.

Trends come and go, but everything is medicalized in this country. Just look at TV ads: "You need this medication, talk to your doctor about it." And follow the money. If doctors made $500 per sex reassignment surgery they performed and hospitals made no profit off them, and psychologists made $50 per session with someone confused about their gender identity the amount of trans would be no more than before.

Goth is still around because it’s always been heavily circled around the music and clubs that fall under that umbrella.

Emo was a trend that came and went. It got extremely popular for my age group in middle school and some high school. Everyone had swoopy hair, skated and listened to “post hardcore” lol.
