I actually do want deflation so that prices return to what they were under Trump. Real wages have declined for 24 straight months.

Well that ain't happening friend. Luckily wage growth hasn't trailed inflation by much but yes, real wages have been down for 24 months, agreed. The best we can hope for is lower increase in prices moving forward.

My bad, I thought you meant normal inflation not actually lowering prices to pre-covid. Prices increase for most things practically every year so price increase are healthy for an economy. It's the huge inflation we're just coming out of that's the issue.

Inflation still remains high and needs to go lower, but good to see it is going downward. Looks like the Feds raised interest rates has worked at lower inflation.

Biden has been able to lower gas/oil prices be releasing close to 50% of America's emergency oil supply. That manipulation of oil prices can not continue much longer. And if oil prices head higher then inflation could become worse.

Inflation Still Hot at 5%, But Price Increases Moderate

Prices never "return back" to levels from previous years because central banks aim to avoid deflation at all costs. What will happen is current rate of inflation/CPI print gets back down to their target range and hopefully stays there for a long period.

If salaries/wages go up along with inflation (and everyone in my circle has had proportionate increases) then it doesn't matter if the figure on the price tag goes back to either the Trump era or even earlier.

Lol.

Inflation is down because of the Fed, Biden's only action taken to reduce inflation has been to spend more money.

If Biden spends less money in his first 2 years and the fed tightens at the same schedule, inflation is even less than 5% right now, if the Fed tightened in 2021 then these problem never occur.

Monthly egg price decline is largest in 36 years

https://thehill.com/business/3946235...t-in-36-years/
Egg prices fell 10.9 percent in March after soaring to record levels earlier this year, according to Labor Department data released Wednesday.

It’s the second straight month that the price of eggs has dropped. Eggs are now 36 percent more expensive than they were one year ago, down from 70.1 percent in January, government data shows.

"Why the drop in March inflation isn’t quite the ‘progress’ touted by Biden"

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/p...rogress-touted

excerpt:

The drop in headline inflation in March is not quite the good news that it might seem at first glance.

Annual inflation fell from 6% in February to 5% in March, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday morning, the lowest rate since May 2021. President Joe Biden touted the report as showing “continued progress in our fight against inflation” — which is now down from 8.9% in June.

BIDEN CELEBRATES AS INFLATION FALLS TO 5% IN MARCH

But the details of the new report make clear that underlying inflationary pressures are still strong.

Specifically, “core inflation” — that is, inflation with the volatile components of food and energy stripped out — did not fall in March. Instead, it rose a 10th of a percentage point, to 5.6%.....

Well, you could also say Biden helped bring down inflation by destroying the domestic economy enough that the fed can push us into a recession.

The fed can and should raise rates in a strong domestic economy to prepare for inevitable economic weakness.

It is possible for the fed to raise rates while the strength of the underlying economy prevents recession*.

Biden and the fed technically triggered the recession in Q4 2022, the fed could have paused rate hikes already and inflation would still come down with the recession, it just wouldn't occur on their politically motivated time table.

*See the Trump economy from 2017 to 2019, rates went up from the time he entered office, yet it wasn't rate hikes that brought about the 2020 recession.

Moving in the right direction
That's a highly unique scenario since most of the price inflation was because of a rampant bird flu. Anyway, good to see the general inflation is down to 5%. Maybe by 2024 it can be down to 3-4% and we have only a mild recession. Because at least one more rate hike is coming from the Fed before they keep things flat. The federal funds rate going back to a historically normal rate is quite a shock to banks, so they've just had the biggest drop in lending in history. In the few instances they are lending it's at an interest rate much higher than times in the past when the federal funds rate was the same. There's a bigger spread. Why? Because the banks expect a lot of defaults, so they're trying to make up for those by having the businesses and individuals who are able to pay a lot more.

In other words, new credit cards, car loans and loans for startup companies are being given at much higher interest rates than they should be because theyknowthe public on average is already over their heads in debt, startups face a bigger uphill battle than pre-Covid, and a lot will be defaulting. Even if inflation comes down to 3% by the end of the year there's a few years of mess ahead of us because so many loans will go bad. Cars and credit cards first, then houses. The banks know this, the CEOs of them and investment firms state as much.

I know that reality is very Debbie Downer, so it's at least good to see inflation is getting better.
