Will GTA 6 be the game that defines this generation?

Will be the first one to release in over a decade. RDR 2 was the most complete game for previous gen technology now imagine how much better this game will be.

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. I think it will probably be fun but a disappointing.

Crazy to think GTA5 was built for a console released in 2005.

Guaranteed to be wildly successful but doubt it'll do anything groundbreaking. Just another ****ty unending MP game to sell microtransactions. The writing is shaping up to be lame and safe.

GTA 3 redefined so many different aspects of open world gameplay, don't see how they'll be able to do better without offering a new gaming experience, whether that's thru augmented reality and/or VR. Feel like something more meta related is going to be needed to transcend the genre

This.

With every GTA post GTA3 there was always scope for significant improvements/additions over the previous iteration, but with GTA5 the current formula has more or less reached its peak.

Like how Capcom truly refreshed the RE series with RE4 (and once again with RE7), I think Rockstar may need to do with GTA, but as the quoted dude highlighted it’s hard to imagine what that would look like outside of VR or something.

Hmmm - I liked GTA vice city and san andreas.

GTA V was pretty cool though and gave the whole game a new pheel and vibe that was aligned quite well to the time period of 2012-2014.

Rockstar have a pretty good track record of releasing solid titles, so I don't doubt that GTA 6 will deliver.

I wonder if the graphics will be as good on RDR2 though?

They better release it on PC as well as a console.

Is this really in the making?
Any idea of a potential release date?
What city will it be modeled after?

It's definitely being made. There were leaked videos released last year showing the game in development.

Poster above me is correct about the city and speculated release date.

I also now have faith because of the gameplay leaks last year. Cuckstar proved with RDR2 they still got it when they take their time and actually give a chit.

They better change up the formula and refresh the gameplay/open world structure.

Rdr 2 for me was bit outdated in design. too onrails

I have serious concerns because of the new people in charge at rockstar and how they have already spoken about "we aren't gonna joke about this anymore and that anymore"

I mean it's possible they can work around the sort of "no no's" in media now and still make something good but I'll have to wait and see.

One issue I had in gta5 was the fact it was only one city and you had a load of empty space, it was a fun sandbox but I would love to see more than one city or AT LEAST a couple of decent sized town with good content as well as vice city in this one.

San andreas style would be best.

Agreed. I've been wanting them to do something like this again. The San Andreas map was so much fun to explore.

No it will be woke trash. RE4 remake has already become the pinnacle of this generation, which is pathetic when you think about it.

Since GTA online is still printing 200 billion dollars a year you can guess which part they will be focusing on.

Unfortunately I agree. Didn't the studio already fire all the people who worked on the previous games?

In terms of making a living breathing world that feels lived in? yes

In terms of having a very sophiscated AI system that feels fun, real and you can interact with in interesting ways - most likely

In terms of pushing gameplay, level design, mission parametres or freedom in how you complete them? nah ... they'll still keep you very on rails given what rdr2 did and I highly doubt they'll stray away from that.

Regardless, the game will definitely set a pretty high bar though.
