Wages and participation have trended the same way. Down.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

I was speaking in general, but point still stands, why work anymore than you need to?

My dream was to find love and have a nice family. That's not happening. Now I just want to relax. Why work?

The original deal of capitalism was a simple trade - a common man's labor in exchange for a wife and a small estate. Thousands of years, every single western empire was built from the ground up based on that simple exchange of value. Every single white country is based on that foundation, starting all the way back with Rome and Greece.

Now the MOGGERS changed the deal. For the majority, it's no wife and no house, only barely enough sustenance to survive. But keep blaming the people, as if our DNA magically changed in a single generation.

This exactly. What is even the proposed incentive anymore? pure greed?

You should work because who wants to live in a basement their entire life?? Hell, if you truly want to escape buy a dog, get a cabin in the woods, and live free. If you really mean what you say then that's what you'd do.

All fun and games until you need at least $2 million to retire or more in the pension years.

That number is actually $3M now lol. Imagine how much higher it's going to get.

99% of people will never retire for any meaningful length of time. You'll work until you stroke out at Mr. Shekelstein's factory, then be swept into a ditch so the work can continue.

I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum

You’re choosing a certain type of depression with either one

There is no easy path, only trade offs

I tell myself of I can't retire by 65 I'll go overseas.

With that said, i dont think, $3 million is needed if you live out in the boonies. America is a huge country, plenty of small quiet towns.

Self employment sounds like the best of both worlds. If you're gonna implode, might as well do it on your own terms.

Don't know if that was ever even your dream. In other threads I do remember you saying that you weren't ever interested in marriage, that you wanted to casually and regularly just date women. You sound like the type who always just wants what you can't have, serious.

Catholics proposed aFAMILYwage for men, not alivingwage.

Logic is a generation after this fails, you will not have any more workers from no one being raised in a family.

waging 8-10 hours a day now and barelyt have energy for anything, theres not really any incentive to work anyways like the idea of having a wife/gf, family, good house, kids, providing like men did in the past.
Many people in society have been completely brainwashed into work culture. “Spend your whole life slaving away, so you can barely afford the things you want” What a way to live!

I think the younger generation are starting to realise that this is complete bulls@@t and are opting out of that lifestyle. The older generation, who are the ones most brainwashed, really struggle to get this mindset.

My 70 year old father in law was one of these people. He spent 45 years of his life slaving away working and barely seeing his family (much to the upset of my wife, who barely saw him as a kid).

I tried explaining to him the problem with the whole “work slave” issue about 15 years ago. He was having none of it at the time. However, since he retired 5 or so years ago his mindset has changed. Although he hates to admit it, he now sees the other side of the argument. The problem he has though is that those 45 years of his life have already gone.

As to my own viewpoint, it’s kind of mixed I guess. Unless you have rich parents, or somehow come into some money, you have to work. If you don’t you are unlikely to be able to lead a particularly fulfilling life (I.e unlikely to find a partner and afford to see the world).

Unfortunately I am one of the people without rich parents. However, I am not willing, like my father in law was, to slave most of my life away to the detriment of seeing my family. I’ve chosen a job where I can work from home most of the time and in which I work no more than 40 hours per week. Because of this I’ve been lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time with my kids as they’ve grown up.
