Do people still get HIV from blood transfusions?
What are the chances of being infected with HIV from a blood transfusion?
Because blood donated in the US is tested for HIV, it is very unlikely that you will get an infection from a blood transfusion.
The chance that donated blood will contain HIV is less than
1 in nearly 2 million.

I remember lol

back then (not even that long ago) it was like this over here, was it the same anywhere else?

- you get a questionnaire to fill in to indicate risk behavior (2 A4 sides lol)

- go to doctor who evaluates if you may donate or not

- together with the questionnaire you also got an anonymous paper where you had to indicate if you lied on the questionnaire (ded srs)

- this you had to drop in a box before going to doctor, with the barcode they could destroy your sample after donation

- this was done so you didn't have to explain why you couldn't donate if you went with a group (I guess)

always found it hilarious as fuk

There are still restrictions although it's on a "good-faith" policy. If you're gay, you're only allowed to donate blood/plasma if it's been 3 months since your last sexual encounter.

Fact of the matter is, it's always been virtually impossible to "screen for a gay patient" and there were still gays donating even with the 100% ban on their donations so they lifted it because it was impossible to enforce. Even in Norway I'm pretty sure there are plenty of gays still donating if they want to.

Regardless the hematology analyzers that screen for diseases and viruses in blood are pretty amazing now days. This isn't the 80s or 90s anymore.

The only advice I can give is to not get sick or injured to the point that you need a transfusion if you're truly paranoid.
