I don't work...live off my parent's help...although I don't have to do anything and no one tells me what to do...but trust me it's not a good feeling, life is very limited with limited options..feel like a failure sometimes.....can't go out much or talk to people...nothing good about it....

I knew the rat race wasn't for me so I never entered it and found ways to free myself completely from worrying about making money by age 25 or so.

However, I can't say being retired for this long at such a young age is all peaches and cream. I've probably read and thought about stuff as much as anyone on earth which might have turned me into the wisest person I know...being wise has downfalls too.

ive said it before on here...i was reselling stuff on ebay while living with my parents and going to college...then invested the money into rental property because I wanted something that would last my whole life.

Tried to do it in my early 20s because I saw the writing on the wall. Wage cucking, corporate America and myself are totally incomparable. I knew from day one that life would be miserable if I worked a 9-5 until death. So I started an Amazon FBA business flipping goods and very soon after went all in on private label. Never made enough to supplement my 9-5 income. So I failed.

Then when Covid hit I tried studying the stock market and going YOLO on some crypto while working part time amid the shutdowns. Made some short term gains that quickly deteriorated into losses. Failed at that.

So now I’m sitting in a cubicle all day working another dead end office job. Still haven’t figure out how to escape the rat race but I sincerely hope the 3rd time will be a charm.

I knew some different people when I lived in Cali. they didnt work at all and were on disability and food stamps and subsidized housing. It was just barely enough, but they didn't have to work to have food, shelter and clothing.

Here is the game plan I used...get expenses as close to zero as possible. Worry about every dollar. Pay cash for a car that's good on gas and will last 10 years. Pay cash for house (the big one that's hard to replicate now). Once you have a paid off house and car and you've whittled every expense to the bone (I pay $15/month for internet for example) then you can really start to breathe and taste freedom.

I know this one...some people do jobs that don't give them enough to lead better lives and they have to just keep on working hard...so they think why even work....when we can achieve the same through some help or Government...

yeah there was a time i lived on less than $1,000/month which included everything. I told people on other forums in my 20s how i was retired and lived on that much and they all thought i was a liar.

True and I was late to the game in both cases. I’m 26 right now just to give you a timeline. By the time I started FBA the marketplace had already been infiltrated by Chinese black hat companies undercutting and sabotaging American competition. The profitable niches were getting harder and harder to find. Amazon FBA is still very doable but you have to have A LOT of money. Like $10k just to get started. I launched my product with $2k. Couldn’t compete.

But from what I understand selling on FBA was like printing free money from 2010-2014ish.

Chasing crypto is a fool’s errand though IMO. It’s pure luck.

Not sure what my next venture will be. Don’t even know where to begin but I agree it has to be unique.

Exactly. by the time everyones talking about some way to make money it never works out

I lost a little money in crypto, looked into some other chit similar to FBA. most people selling courses on youtube only make money off of selling courses

I will seek one more promotion that involves a move and then I’m done. Opportunities can come to me.

That’s one way I guess. I work a flexible 9-5. No travel, relaxed culture. Good pay.
I’d like to lead on a regional level but that’s about it. I mean I’ll take more money and position but not if it involves moving around.

Work pays for my real life. It’s the way I see it now.

Depends on what you mean by rat race. Thankfully I'm not a part of the typical 9 to 5 office life. I've been running a small business for 7/8 years and it gives me great flexibility. Can travel a few months of the year and still earn good money etc.

If you mean not having to ever work again and sip cocktails forever on a beach, I'm still a long way off that. Currently looking at a few other possible income streams to diversify the sources of my total income.

When I was starting out I tried a few different hustles before landing on what I do now (offering certain types of digital marketing services to businesses). While I had okay success with the previous ventures, in hindsight it's clear why what I do now has worked out the best. It leverages all my main strengths. As basic as it sounds, if I was starting out I would dial in to what I'm really good at and looks at potential opportunities to leverage those skills. Then it's probably a matter of throwing chit to the wall and seeing what sticks.
