MISC MECHANICS: Check engine light suddenly appeared this morning...
My car is a 2004 Toyota Matrix with 200k miles.
So a month or two ago I had the O2 sensor and battery replaced. Everything was good. Last week I replaced the relay for the AC myself, because my AC wasn't working. Everything seemed fine and the AC has been working since. But just this morning I noticed my check engine light is on.
Could this have something to do with the relay I replaced? The car seems to be running totally fine. I'm confused as sh!t.

code reader costs like 20 bucks man.
some cars have a system that will display the code if you do a sequence of functions on your steering wheel/dash control.
If neither of those are achievable, just go to your closest auto parts retailer and they will read it for free. takes 30 seconds.
I would not sweat it too bad if you do not have symptoms or any other indications. Look at it, but don't freak out or anything.

The tranny is right but he was definitely a dick about it. Probably needs his daily dose of estrogen.
Scan it. A lot of times new O2 sensors go out so don’t be surprised to see the same code. Downside of cheap parts

Those sensors have a knack for all failing about the same time. Probabaly a completely different sensor you've got to change now.

^^ Fukn Mario wants you to get a "car reader".... U WUT M8?
OP, most major auto parts stores (Advanced, Auto Zone) will check the codes for you for free. Take it there and see what the code is and report back.

Could also be because you replaced the battery. Get an OBD2 reader, check what the fault is, if it's emissions then clear the code and see if it comes back.

Take to auto parts store so they can check the code.

Protip: OP, you gonna have to google the code after you get it. Just google "2004 Matrix CEL Code PXXXX"
The X is where you will put the four digit code you get.
It will bring you right to some forum where people talk about what leads to that cause and how to fix it.
If you are not confident in your abilities for what should be an easy task (replacing an O2 sensor), just youtube it man. You can do whatever you need to on that car.

I have multiple scanners but use this one the most. First thing i always do is just erase all codes and see if it even comes back. I’ve seen codes throw just because you held the key on too long when starting or not long enough and it misfires. Otherwise you are just chasing a problem that doesn’t even exist.

Code readers are like $20 on amazon nowadays. Or leave it at the dealer ship for a day for a $300 diagnostic and estimate.

So I got the code checked. It said it's P0456 - very small evaporative leak. Gas cap seems fine. Any ideas?

Also, how long can I wait before having this fixed?

As long as you want until your next inspection. It's not going to ruin your car.

You can let them diagnose it. If it is the valve, chances are you can youtube and do it yourself pretty easily. For most cars it's an easy swap.
