Some kids are. Chemical Engineering is one of the top paying fields, it's common for high schoolers to google "top paying field" and pick that.

More to story, but there are a lot of homeowners who come to the door with a weapon for no reason. I doubt the kid "rang the doorbell" and was shot.

I had an indigenous Indian come to my door last year . Unfortunately I answered it and almost bled to death from the lacerations from getting bludgeoned with what I suspect was a machete.
