Seniors put an insane strain on the system and most places (Canada included) are having to deal with high numbers of them without having accounted for it.
People during COVID were railing against seniors dying when these were people just sitting in nursing homes with zero quality of life, and frankly not only was dying a blessing for them and their families but it meant a needed bed was freed up. I honestly think they should give seniors an option to medically suicide every year after the age of about 75 - a lot of them would happily take it. You should also be able to give it to people with Alzheimers and severe dementia or things like MS and Parkinsons.
So either you pay high taxes, which they have in places like Germany and Norway or you have crappy care like in Canada and England. Or you pay out of pocket like in the US, most of which goes to corrupt inflation of service prices.

i wonder why op forgot the most important part of the article, strange.
1.Last week's four-day walkout by medics demanding a 35 per cent pay rise was expected to lead to the cancellation of another quarter of a million appointments and operations across the NHS.
2. Treatment delays existed long before the doctors' strike — and also the Covid-19 pandemic
Indeed, while the impact of the virus may have worsened the bottlenecks, the problem of rising patient demand is of longer standing
So we have delays before Covid, the shift to Covid for 2.5 years and now a doctors strike for a 35% pay increase.
A kind of you are fkd...... trifecta.

JF Caron is Canadian. Ripped both quads off the bone at the 2021 Arnold. Was rushed to the hospital and had surgery in less than 24 houra despite no insurance and telling the hospital he didn't have the means to cover the surgery.
And because of that, he's actually able to attempt a comeback and he attributes that to the American hospital pushing immediate surgery. If he had waited to go home it would have taken at least a week before Canada would even schedule a surgery.

My Dad's health was not good the last 3-4 years before he passed away almost 2 years ago. So I dealt a lot with the system.
Even my with heath I have been able to get great care when needed. Perhaps I am lucky about that but at least I didn't have to spend our life savings.

If he had torn his quads in Canada most likely he would have gotten the surgery right away.

The government has a long and well established history of mismanaging healthcare so obviously the thing to do is give it even more control. Its just common sense

Lmao I know people IRL who live in Canada and absolutely fking HATE universal health care. Some of them literally come out of pocket to see doctors in America because their healthcare system is so AIDS.

It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.

We can have that.
next payday, take a look at the part on your pay stub where it lists total deductions. it will list all the taxes and social security and all that.
Simply double that number. That will be your portion of universal health care.
Now look at your tax return. That line that says amount to be refunded to you. Delete that line.
There you go, you can now afford "free" healthcare. Sure, it technically will cost you way more than just having insurance but your feelings wont get hurt so there is that.
Now, if you also want free college. Double that deduction amount again on your paystub. Doesnt matter if you are going to school or have already paid your debt off. It will make you feel batter and that somehow seems to be what really counts.

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

The NHS takes the worst of private and public practices and makes a red headed, mutant love child.
As an example, it is single payer, but each hospital has it's own procurement with no central purchasing.
Hospital A pays $5 for an item, hospital B pays $10 and hospital C pays $75. If they leveraged the insane purchasing power that they have, they would be paying $1.75 for the item.
Money gets thrown at the hospitals and less and less patients get treated. They are so mismanaged it is unbelievable.
I could rant all day about what a clusterfk the NHS is, but any mention of reform makes them throw their toys out of their prams.
