Pretty unreal how much conflicting information is out there on this. Basically had a back ache for no reason that gradually got worse on Thursday until I've been forced to laying since Friday and probably was at the worst today. No sciatica leg pain, just limited range of motion and pain sitting or standing, even laying though
Also conflicting info on if you're supposed to move it. It's been 3 days resting so maybe resting doesn't work
Wtf

Also the best practice guidelines are very clear. Stay active, keep moving and don't be a pussy. You're back pain will likely resolve in under 8 weeks. (srs btw)

So based on what you say, it could be a muscle sprain or very minor damage to a disc. The stay active advice I just am leery about. It's not just pain but feels like it'll give out if I persist walking around

The odds of your back pain being anything serious are extremely extremely low. Just keep active, train around it as best you can and it will get better. Pain is complex and doesn't always = tissue damage or reflect the level of damage.

Have to wonder if it's one big mind initiated spasm from guarding that area

back pain is mostly psycho****tic.
If you've had recurring chronic back pain, it's probably in your head.... ESPECIALLY if it appeared for no significant reason (a significant reason is something like a massive fall, or car accident, etc)
If you threw out your back because you sat in the car for 2 hours one day, it's psycho****tic.

I’ve pulled a back muscle before a couple times and the last thing you want to do is give it complete rest. Or it’ll keep locking up more
Best lifts:
Bench press: 315x5
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

I had 8/10 sudden pain the other day, legs spasming, I literally sat down, and just thought about my life and the pain dropped to a 2/10 within a few hours.

Kind of an evolutionary adaptation. I feel bad for people who end up on a lifelong journey of pharma/pain clinics..... It literally never helps.... Just creates addiction.

a sprain entails something to do with muscle. a slip disc is just that, something to do with the spine.
both can present similar symptoms.
the worst thing you can do in most situations though is just to be inactive. this weakens and atrophies the muscle and makes it worse. not to mention decreased blood flow which causes less recovery. back pain isn't really understood all that well. there are cases of people with multiple slipped discs but present with zero pain. their MRI should indicate that they are handicapped but they are just fine. conversely, there are people who present perfectly healthy MRIs, or imaging systems don't pick up anything. but they still experience very real pain. that part of it is not very understood. often life stresses in general can exacerbate this.
sitting down for hours on end though can cause very real back pain for a lot of people. it's basically your muscles telling your body that you need to shift your position because your muscles have been in the same position an extended period of time. certain muscles will be overactive in a sitting position and certain muscles will be underactive creating an imbalance that can manifest in pain. EX: when you're sitting, hip flexors are active and glutes/back are inactive. over time these become weak and stiff to the point where sudden minor contractions can mess up your back. sitting can also trigger things like inflammation, reduced muscle oxygenation and blood flow causing pain.
both can present similar symptoms.

The second half is nonsense though. Yes sitting for long periods can cause pain, so can standing. Just change position every so often. You're not going to "mess up your back" from sitting.
