Have you ever seen or played against a future pro athlete in high school?
How good were they? Did you think they were a future pro?
I saw Blake Griffin play at a basketball tournament when he was a sophomore in high school. He was easily the best player in the entire tournament. Like nobody was even close to him. I didn’t think he’d be the number 1 pick a few years later. But I definitely thought he’d be a future player.

Was friends/classmates with Bryan Reynolds in middle school and dude was the biggest troll. Would draw penises on the wall and have battles on who can scream penis as loud as possible. In gym class, he was def one of the more athletic guys when we did fitness tests and stuff. Our gym classes were huge, about 150-200 students.
Went to high school with Mookie Betts but he was two grades older. Saw him shooting around and playing basketball. Was legit like Steph Curry, I don't think I seen him miss a shot.
Too bad baseball is boring tho so never seen or cared to watch them play baseball.

Yep. Not going to say names but I played against someone who ended up as a fullback in the NFL, bounced around to a couple different teams, and had a decent 3-4 year run. Also played against and with a future MLB reliever who ended up briefly as a closer for a few teams in a couple seasons.

Played against a dude who played DE for the Broncos for a few years. Was a 4 star player in HS, dude was a tank but played RB. I was a pretty good player in HS, got some D2 offers and I got absolutely ran over by him when he played RB.
Hardest I've ever been hit, and he only went down cause he tripped over me lol. That was literally the moment that I realized the difference in some of these kids out there competing for scholarships

I saw Conor McDavid play a game when he was 12 playing with 15 year olds. He scored 6 goals and had 4 assists.
Played baseball and football against guys who made MLB/NFL rosters. They dominated.

yep
3 guys i played with on my HS/aau teams went pro. One in Aus, one in the UK, third in the NFL
another guy in our class played pro soccer
I could always tell they were very good, but I didn't think either of them had the ability to go to the NBA. NFL guy wasn't really a surprise just because he was massive. not really a great athlete

Jason Spezza was playing junior league when I was in college and I treated him a few times. Kid was younger than anyone and would still have been in high school at the time, but he literally skated circles around other guys.

someone I know went to Mira Mesa high school (same class) with running back Damien Williams #26 who won the SB with the Chiefs in 2019. Said he was really serious all the time.

I played against Gerald Henderson and Wayne Ellington in high school basketball. They both played at Episcopal Academy and they went to Duke and NC when those two were the best in the country. They completely mogged my all white team. Their bench was playing by the 2nd half.

was teammates with a QB in high school that ended up growing from 5'7 to 6'3 from freshman to senior and played in the CFL.
my cousin (who played in many semi-pro rec leagues and was often the best player) went against a D1 college bball player at YMCA. The D1 player in a nutshell basically kicked his ass. And he didn't even get drafted.

Played against a couple of pitchers who went to the minor leagues.
Practiced with Ray Rice when he was at New Rochelle HS in NY. We practiced together prepping for states because our teams were in different divisions.
My uncle coached the McCourty twins as peewees. I played Pop Warner with them but they were a level or two below me. I would've played with them in HS but they both ended up going to St. Joes private school in prep of football careers.

Played against/with 2 that went to the NFL. Played with 1 for about 13 years that won a SB, and played against the other that got booted from the league. Played with plenty that got scholarships to D1 schools (baseball & football).

My buddy played baseball with a guy who is an MLB pitcher. Been in MLB about 10 years I think. When he was in 8th grade he was pitching batting practice and dominating the varsity team. I don't think they knew he'd have a career in the bigs, but they all knew he had a chance. He was sick back then even.
I played hockey against a few guys who made it to the NHL. Nothing too special.

For football, Manti Teo(Punahou), he looked as good as advertised and dominated. Pretty sure the only reason why we played him was because other teams were too afraid.
A year later we played Desmond Trufant, we all thought he was overrated due to his brother and that our corners were better lol. We dominated them, but corners in HS aren't that impactful.
Johnny Hekkar, beat our team in the playoffs my first year of high school as a QB
I never played baseball, but a dude I was decent friends with got drafted in the 1st round of the MLB draft, but didn't do much in the league.
Also ran long distance track with a dude who had a low 4 min mile in high school, then ran under 4 mins in college, but I guess got injured.
