The new buildings are pretty high quality though and there’s a ton.

i'm used to an acre of land, 95% white neighbors so far away i rarely see anyone and an actual house that costs the equivalent of a $1,000/mortgage (paid cash). couldn't imagine living in a concrete jungle...my head would be buzzing 24/7.

Seems cool to live in until you're 35. After that I don't know why anyone with less lifestyle than Patrick Bateman ('American Psycho') stays. Habit I guess. "But there's great food." This isn't 1950 or even 1990, you can get great food in almost any medium sized or large city nowadays. A lot of the mistique from decades ago just isn't there as other cities grew up, having a lot of the same cool stuff in a far more comfortable setting. The one thing NYC has is it isn't so car dependent like newer cities are.

Definitely must suck. It's so cheap to live there cause no one wants to live in that liberal hellscape, demand is so much more bigly in ruby red rural areas but most folks can't afford to live in those high demand areas...oh wait...

Surely people pay 5x+ for the same dwelling in some amazing city rather then some 1950's rural backwoods because you have be on high alert for attack and need to watch out for piss puddles while holding your nose cause it smells so bad...not to mention paying bigly taxes, high parking cost, etc.

Yep. Like everything else there's mostly good parts with some bad sprinkled in. It's so funny that rarely are there threads saying how lousy rural areas are and why would anyone live there. When the reality is that rural areas are bleeding people as folks choose to move closer to cities to enjoy the job prospects, education, culture, food, entertainment, etc.

But hey some folks prefer rural areas and that's fine. Rich has what looks like an awesome spread in bumphuk WVa. He likes it so good for him. I live 2 miles outside the supposed hellscape that is Baltimore and I wouldn't ever trade with Rich. I am 15 - 20 minutes away from major sports, amazing shopping, amazing food, broadway level plays, a zillion concert venues, worldclass healthcare, worldclass colleges, etc.

We can all like different things and still respect each other.
