WFH - Uh, oh

Now, let me say that I agree with what this YouTuber, Joshua Fluke says however, the reality is that WFH isn't fully set in stone & may have drawbacks.

All for WFH if your job allows it, but businesses will always find a way to make a profit - in this case, outsourcing the job to save profit.

Always thought the WFH crew was a little bit weird in that they never understood that if it goes full remote, their jobs can be done for pennies on the dollar.

Big oof.

WFH crew was weird in general. Lot of Beta vibes from that group in general. Like, I get wanting a good work-life balance but some of them were acting like driving 15 minutes to work was cruel and unusual punishment or something. Strange mindset.

Outsourcing isn't something new... I've been hearing ****** customer service reps since 2002....

One of the companies I worked for in the past tried to outsource their finance department to India as a "Shared Service Center".... It was a total disaster. Nevermind the time zone difference and language barrier, people from 3rd world countries can't do white collar jobs well enough to justify the cost savings. They can do manufacturing labor, but anything that requires meticulous attention to detail isn't their specialty.

No fear of losing my WFH status any time soon.

I'll watch the video later, but I work with a guy that's been WFH since the 90s. Really almost anything can be outsourced, especially now.

Well it's not just that, it's being tied to a particular location. Like you have to live 15 minutes (though more realistically closer to an hour) away from your job. It also makes it harder to find another job if you lose that one without moving, so you become more dependent on where you work, causing even more stress.

I WFH but have certain access to data and tools for the job that can't be outsourced to other countries due to regulations. If this is your situation, then your "fear of job loss due to cheap outsourcing" concerns kinda diminishes. Even if you had the concerns, you can still try to stand out by being the best on your team from both a metrics and morale/charisma standpoint - unless of course the entire team gets let go.

TBH in some ways I slightly welcome job loss, because it would come with 3-6 months of severance in most cases. But obviously wouldn't be ideal if you like your job, pay, coworkers, benefits, etc. Which I do for the most part.

At the end of the day a human is needed to fill the role. Doesn't matter if you WFH or show up in an office. And if it's in the office, maybe you need access to printer, or other machines, maybe a server room, depends on the job but I'd think that falls mainly into IT / physical security / forensics.

I don't think it's fair to say that WFH correlates with increased chance of jobloss/outsourcing. But it is fair to say that if you WFH you only need access to the corpo network, and some jobs which solely need that access and nothing more are eligible for outsourcing.

this is just commute-cel cope.
if companies could just outsource all their work to a different culture in a different timezone and be able to still function during U.S. business hours they would of done it a long time ago.

the facts are you can't just replace full time WFH employee's with offshore in india because it doesn't work.
If you worked in any type of large corp you would know it was tried and it was a failure.

now don't forget your coffee, wallet, or cellphone when you leave the house every morning.

You don't have to offshore, you can hire people on lower salaries in cheaper states/lower cost of living areas instead of paying city prices.

Lots of jobs have high salaries due to being in high COL areas, but when they can WFH from a low COL area, there is no need to pay the high COL premium.

They didn't outsource due to lower quality. If they are getting lower quality from WFH, they might as well get lower qualityandlower price.

In a city centre, you can be paying $50k per year per person to provide office space. If WFH was so great, employers would make everybody WFH and save the $50k.

Why do they want them back in the office, even though it costs $50k more? Because the majority of people aren't psychologically suited for WFH and do less work.

I'm more surprised this hasn't already happened entirely with every FAANG company

This is sad. These companies do not care. The fact that they could outsource means the possibility to WFH was always there.

However, i think this is scared tactics simply because companies would've been outsourced those jobs way before Covid.

they tried outsourcing 10 years ago when it was all the age. Indians were horrible, different time zone and hard to communicate with.

WFH is offered cuz if not, your competitors will pouch your best and smartest. It's not cuz "they're being nice".

They also save money by reducing office size. Also most companies have 1-2 days in office. Did you know managers ALSO like wfh and love the commuting save? not just peasant employees. Execs love it too.

being "paid to occupy a chair" has resulted in tons and tons of wasted hours gossiping, smoke breaks, web surfing, texting, working as slow as possible. Also helping increase obesity crisis with heavy carb meals.
Weight Loss: Go carnivore or keto/low carb. Create calorie deficit. Buy packaged healthy meals if needed. Meat is good and heals, stop being lied to.

Where are you living where you ONLY drive 15 minutes to work? The average commute time (ONE-WAY) in southern California is 45 minutes, and thats if there is no congestion due to an accident, and if there is, you're looking at a 1hr30min commute easily. Its not just Southern California, its pretty much any densely populated city/metropolitan area....which also happens to be where the vast majority of the countries population lives.

you are an outlier. besides even if your commute is only 15minutes, you're still wasting gas and accruing basic wear and tear (burning oil/tire tread etc) on your car which ultimately cuts into how much money you bring home. All of that feels like a waste of money when you know your job can be done from home.
