Agree on the CBDC, the US Gov wants it and this is all part of the plan. If they can get away from Fiat and go CBDC, they can control every aspect of your life. Thats the ultimate goal here

IDK about an intentional default Raj. I did read the statement where they discuss how a default might play out.

Are central banks steering us towards CBDCs? Yes. Are they ready to roll them out within the next 3 months at the retail level? I'm skeptical.

If a country does default then I think it is better to be the first to default in a way- first in, first out. But I can't see it being a good thing to do on purpose.

That doesn't mean that the people running the show won't blow this thing up sooner than they would prefer [accidental], nor does it mean that they want to avoid blowing it up. Sadly given the last few years I can't make a case for ruling out self-destruction, or IOW wrecking their own country.

Notice that is not including Silvergate, PacWest, or First Horizon [failed sale].[/QUOTE]I don’t think adjusting for inflation is the correct way to look at this, in no small part because we’ve experienced 14-20 years of crazy growth and very low inflation (likely partly due to globalization) with low and almost zero interest rates.

Measuring against something like M1 or M2 money growth is probably the way to go, and we printed an insane amount of money during the pandemic in particular that is likely also a driver or what now needs to unwind.

This isn’t over yet.

Agree. I believe that the money supply has shrunk rather sharpish like, which is unusual. However I heard that is mostly due to the cash moving from currency to bonds.

I believe the money printing is also what drove the issues in banks like SVB who had so much cash coming in they didn't know what to do with it or how to mitigate their risk in an environment of rates increasing at the quickest clip ever. They bought a whack of long-term treasuries and MBS at very low yields, rates went way up and took those yields with them, bam big unrealized losses on their balance sheet.

The Fed giveth and the Fed taketh away, there's still too much money floating around if speculative assets like crypto are any indication. Consolidation in US banking has been happening for a while now, there are fewer than 100 banks in Canada and the 5 biggest have like 90% of the market share.

You love to see it! I can't wait for a collapse of this entire CHARADE JOKE of an economy. Bro we have had a national debt of 1 trillion a year collectively and now we have once again reached our debt ceiling. USA is about to be a third world country. It would be like if you or i kept maxing out our discover card, never paid, and they just kept extending our line of credit. That is EXACTLY what the US has been doing for the last 20 some years. It has to stop.

Also, auto manufacturers selling chit PAST MSRP, then adding markup, on 84 month terms to retards with negative equity is going to eventually collapse as well. None of the chit we have grown up with is sustainable.

But srs, its time to buy some stock in Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Etc. The "too big to fail crew". I did that when oil tanked during covid and made a chitload of $$$.

Of course, healthy companies have their stock's value cut in half in a day of trading all the time. Especially on days when the total market lost less than 1%.

No, buy a bond fund instead.

This is actually a once in a lifetime chance to buy bond funds for cheap. It's been like 30 years since it was last like this.
