Covid was no longer a global health emergency once Omicron became dominant, so it's been no threat since early 2022. Even before Omicron most of the population had already been infected. We know most of the deaths are unrelated to Covid, but most US states followed WHO protocol, where death certificates were only part of classifying Covid deaths. Someone hospitalized for cancer and had a positive Covid test while in the hospital with no to mild symptoms - if they died of their cancer while in the hospital or within 2 months of being discharged they were also classified as a Covid death. Even if it wasn't listed on their death certificate as a contributing cause. I read the classification directly from several state websites. Death by ANY cause was also a Covid death if they had a positive test within 60 days.

And people wonder why we've lost faith in public health. I know that a handful of states aren't bothering to report anymore. The fraud became too much to bare.

While it's been no threat for a long time, I'm glad the WHO made its decree. Just two weeks ago when registering my youngest for a daycare we had to wear masks and were told they'd be at the front door, and we were still expected to wear them. I took my youngest to the daycare for the first time today, no mandatory mask wearing. Sweet. To no surprise the woman running it had told us how she caught Covid for the first time after she'd been boosted. The same story as many people I know. Boosted, got it within 1-3 months for the first time that they were aware of.

Agreed. the threat of long covid still looms and we must take all actions required to stem this lasted wave. Some things I would recommend.

1. Mask in high danger areas (restaurants, gyms, etc)
2. Verify vaccine status for concerts and mass gatherings.
3. Increase air flow in supermarkets.
4. Instruct classrooms to ensure an N95 mask requirement is in place.

Simple things we can all do as covid is never going away we must learn to live in the new reality of restrictions.

The other way I know its not gone is that there are these nice young men wearing masks and hoodies going around the neighborhood at 2am wiping down door knobs and the handles on car doors to make sure we don't get covid! So thoughtful, so considerate!

Some do yes. Unsurprisingly most of them are in California. Vax requirement for foreigners ends soon. US was one of the last countries to drop it cause science.
