Intentionally haven't read much about this shooting. It isn't that far from me. Lived in the Richardson/Plano area for about 5 years.

Doesn't change anything, but the shooter was Hispanic and had a gang tattoo on his hand.

amazing how retards will say we need to restrict guns but won't stop and wonder why it is that these people are doing these things in the first place

Like the first poster said, you have to be afraid of people knocking at your door or just walking through a mall in the US because you could fall victim to some nutjob.

Meanwhile, just implementing a few simple things would likely help to curb the violence. There's no way you're going to prevent it, just make it harder for people to get their hands on one.
I think the least expensive and effective measure would be increased restrictions on gun ownership for people under 21. 25 would be even better.

Meaning for people under that age to be licensed purchasers and owners of firearms [outside of maybe some hunting rifles] there would be a requirement for training via military, law enforcement, or private entity.

Why? Because men under age 25 usually have higher testosterone/lower inhibition. And people under 25 in general don't have fully matured brains.

Look at violent crime a bit and participation in violent crimes drops off a cliff.

^^^
This is not new information.

Mandatory military or civil service would probably help too.

The other stuff would cost a lot more money and take much more time to implement...things to do with reducing overall stress on the population and improving mental health. Also that is the opposite of what our leadership wants anyway as they seem to prefer to sow division, hatred, and fear.

Having access to guns isn't the answer to the question of: "why are there so many people who think it's OK to go out and murder strangers?"

The reason this happens in America is because of the deeper issue that is causing people to want to kill strangers. This is an American societal issue and people who want to boil it down to 2A are just burying their heads in the sand.

It's very complicated since we're talking about the culture of 330 million diverse people. But the way I see it is there are two main drivers. One is the general divide among people which because of social media and mainstream media are as heated as ever. Blacks hate whites and whites hate blacks. Democrats hate Republicans and Republicans hate Democrats. Anti abortionists hate pro abortionists and vice versa. Anti LBGTers hate pro LBGTers and vice versa. Fixing this divide of hatred is one step.

The other main driver is this recent phenomenon of blaming society for one's problems. This is seen the most with the whole systemic racism aspect but is also a main driver of the incel epidemic. If our culture is teaching everyone that society is to blame for their problems, then those individuals are going to get their revenge on society by going out and killing as many strangers as possible. We need to stop this coddling culture. Problem is this culture is almost exclusively pushed by the left, who are the same people trying to put all the blame on the guns.

So back to the quote, I'm American and clearly seeing these two main drivers in every day life. Are these things also present in other countries which do not experience mass shootings?

I mean, it's clear easy access to guns is the reason America has so many mass shootings.

But banning guns is not the answer.

In Europe, 8 people were massacred in a German church a month or 2 ago, and there have been 2 mass shootings in Serbia with 15+ dead in both of them.

Europe has these problems too.

btw, under 500 people per year are killed by rifles in the entire US.

Your quarrel should be with handguns, and the vast majority of those deaths are black on black or black on white.

So if people want to be outraged, then where has the outrage been the last 30 years as black homicides have risen?

Countries that are less diverse have far less mass shootings than the USA. Would you support removing all non-white people from the USA so that mass shootings will drop down to levels that exist in other major white countries?

No, but making it harder to get guns for a lot of people would mean that if somebody wanted to commit mass murder, they would have to try harder to get what they needed to do so. There's literally zero point to NOT doing that if it is something easily implemented like Katya's idea where you have to be above 25, which I think is an excellent start. If you're a convicted criminal, can't buy a gun (legally).

Just don't make the access so damned easy that if somebody thinks about killing a bunch of people they can just walk into a local store and get what they need.

So if you're a convicted criminal for let's say......criminal trespass, or cannabis, you should be prohibited from owning a firearm?

And someone can join the military, and kill brown people at the age of 18, but for possible home defense, you'd make them wait till the age of 25???

And why 25??? You're a legal adult at 18, but people like you want to raise the age for everything. Except voting......

People in the military and policing have training around firearms and also psychological evaluations, they aren't nearly as likely to be mass shooters.

And no, but lets say anyone convicted of a violent crime or a felony. Again, it would be easy.

What do you suggest besides nothing, which is what is happening currently?

So now someone isn't a legal adult till they're 25? Should everyone under that age be charged as a juvenile?

Fine, how about denying these same violent offenders the right to vote as well?

And you think people in the military have good psych evaluations? You do know that gangbusters have somehow been able to join the military, how is that possible?

Didn't say that. I'm guessing you didn't see my earlier post? #67?

If the idea is to reduce the number of gun related homicides + most violent crimes are committed by males under 30 and peaking at age 19 = reducing the number of males under 25 with guns should reduce the number of gun related homicides. And if most of the men under 25 who do legally carry a gun have had military or law enforcement training then hopefully they are at least more disciplined.

Plus it wouldn't really be taking guns away to require training for younger men to own and carry weapons...the "training" could be membership in a state militia.

You can join the military and kill people at the age of 18. You can become a police officer at the age of 21. You can be an armed security guard at the age of 21.

So why increase the age, for a civilian to arm themselves, to 25 years old?

The right to vote and the right to own a weapon that can kill people are two entirely different things and that's a stupid comparison.

I think he has you check mated, m8.

The right to own a gun is directly related to how people vote.

A bad idea (as you see it) is far more damaging than any firearm.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Your solution is to what? Have the good old, trustworthy government use the police/military to disarm the American public?

And give me a break, you could really care unless, until the media TELLS you to care......

Honestly I'm starting to come around to the idea you can't have a 2nd amendment while also living with the violent races and third world savages. Certain demographics simply are not sophisticated enough to be responsible with rights

The right to own a gun is directly related to how people vote.

A bad idea (as you see it) is far more damaging than any firearm.
Look at all of these liberal utopias, that are dealing with surges in crime, businesses leaving, migrants being bussed there, etc.

What are they learning? That elections have consequences, and you get what you voted for.

Thing is, all of these posters crying for us to be disarmed, they don't even live in the US. Being a cop, I'm allowed to carry my forearm, off duty, for my protection.

Why should a civilian be denied the same right?
