It's a civil case and you have to make the majority of the jury think you're credible. When you're sued for sexual assault, it's never a good idea to say that you can fortunately get away with sexual assault. You don't have to be a lawyer to know that... just need to not be an idiot.

I don't know what exactly transpired 30+ years ago and the circumstances around it. If this was a criminal case, then yes, I would be outraged by a guilty verdict. As a crivil case? Based on Trump's deposition he was basically asking to lose this case. It was really bizarre to see that. He didn't even show up, which we also know doesn't sit well with a jury, especially when someone is defending themselves against rape. He basically did everything he could to sabotage himself to lose this case.

The burden of proof is much different in civil trials than it is in criminal cases. It essentially comes down to who is believed, that's it, and of course the last seven years of media onslaught certainly swayed a lot of opinions, and Trump's own stupid comments.

You know this happens all the time. 14 years ago when I was working for a judge my first summer of law school I was part of a trial where a guy was convicted of child rape on nothing more than the testimony of a seven year old.

The police etc. tore the guys place apart, did a deep dive on his computer - all of it and found only legal porn. The kid’s mom was a druggie and passed her kid off on everyone she could. Didn’t matter, the jury “felt like he wasn’t a good guy.”

It's a civil case. It's not beyond a reasonable doubt... it's simply who do you believe and who has more credibility. That's why I said I would have been outraged if it was a criminal case because it cannot be proven... but it doesn't have to be proven.
