Microsoft always phuck up. They phucked up with games for windows back in the day when they tried to rival steam etc. Just little to no support and then pull the plug.

The 360 shet all over the ps3. Why? It came out 1.5 years earlier or something with gta iv exclusive dlc announced, halo 3, saints row, gears of war etc. Party chat too which the ps3 didn't have for ages., trigger buttons so it made it the #1 console for fpsers. (That ps3 controller was unplayable)

Then they drop the ball with bungie and stopped the decent exclusives.

The original Xbox came out in 2001, the 360 in 2005, and although it absolutely smashed it out of the park for the first several years, it was already treading water before the Xbone released in 2013. Except Sonyreactedto the problem by investing in new IPs, and Nintendo's executives took pay cuts until they could come up with a winning formula through the Switch. Microsoft... sat on their Dorito dust-covered thumbs with growing collection of IPs sitting in the corner, and if it weren't for Phil Spencer and his idea of Game Pass, Xbox would have nothing but Craig and Redfall. Hell, they could've just left Redfall as a multiplatform release and people might have forgotten about it, while looking at least a bit better to regulators for not being so desperate as to cling onto that scheisse as an exclusive.

Unlike Sony and Nintendo, Xbox is just a small part of Microsoft as a whole, which likely complicates the entire picture far morebecausethere are expectations for "Xbox" to eventually grow and capture another segment of the market for Microsoft. The refusal to expand and develop fresh new IPs was an early sign that the Xbox brand was becoming increasingly detached from the artistic and creative nature of the medium. Now we have the fact that itfinallydawning on Xbox's upper management that they lack consistent, quality games was less of a wake up call and instead more resignation at being caught with their pants down for so long.But you see, it is an ecosystemwith levels, like the layers of a digital onion.
