It's taught in the Bible. Discipline them, teach them, protect them from seductive temptations and bad ideas that will lead them astray.
one example verse on the subject :
Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!
10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.
11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

If you’re a parent, you likely want your kid to flourish and succeed. And according to my guest today, the best way to do that is to let your kid fail.
Her name is Jessica Lahey and she’s a teacher and the author of the book, The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed. Today on the show, Jess gives us a quick overview of the history of parenting in America and why it’s gotten more protective and more involved in the past few decades. We then discuss the many downsides of helicopter parenting and why letting your kids fail is so important for their long-term development. Jessica then gets into the nitty gritty of areas where you should let your kid experience failure and how to make sure these failures become learning experiences.
Show Highlights
The backstory that led Jess to writing this book, including her own failures at home
The culture shifts that have led us to an age of overprotective parenting
From child-rearing to parenting
The ways in which parents freak each other out
Downsides of overprotective parenting
How to give your kids more autonomy
Why frustration is important for kids to feel
Why you shouldn’t tell your kids that they’re intrinsically smart
Striving for “autonomy supportive” parenting
How giving less guidance and advice can improve your relationship with your kids
How do you resist the urge to just do things for your kid when they’re doing something the wrong way?
Process over product
Why it’s so important to assign kids “household duties” (rather than “chores”)
Why Jess doesn’t care if her kids’ rooms are clean
How young to start kids on doing things around the house
Letting your kids do “dangerous” things
Your kids’ friendships; what to do when they’re hanging out with the wrong crowd
Handling school, and the importance of getting good grades
Why letting her kid go to school with a crappy science fair project was one of the best things she’s done

Do you have any sources to back these claims? Something a bit more substantive than your "feels" would be nice this time around.

A child will choose comfort and ease almost every single time if you let them and are not mature enough to know what’s best for them, so that plays right into the helicopter parenting issue. But again you think it should be legal for grown men to walk around naked in front of kids so you clearly don’t have children and will probably never understand proper parenting.Helicopter parenting is the opposite of giving kids control.

But I'm open to checking out evidence in support of the claim that more parents let kids do whatever they want now than in the 30's.
Or do "feels" only support the claims of leftist conservatives?

"The meaning of helicopter parenting is loosely defined as parenting that pays excessive attention to children’s every move and experience. Helicopter parents are highly involved, overprotective parents who tirelessly oversee every aspect of their children’s lives and sometimes even act on their behalf."

Children have certainly mastered the art of selecting, negotiating and even refusing the chores their parents assign to them.
So kids can be overly protected from their parents in some ways, at the same time parents are giving their kids more power to outright defy their parents when it comes to chores, appearance, and other areas. So more and more kids have a force protecting them from the world while also being a pushover and allowing the kid to choose the easiest path at home by giving them too much power. Now do you understand?
