If you’re a secular/non-Christian conservative, what exactly are you conserving?

Most Republican values are rooted in Judeo-Christian beliefs. Republicans love hierarchy, and Christianity is as hierarchical you can get: there’s a supreme being and everyone is born in sin. Trump supporters are also extremely objective as opposed to subjective. I’m extremely subjective and a postmodernist, everything is relative.

So if you’re a highly objective Trump supporter, then you must have a source for objective truth. That source cannot be anything else other than “God”. I think all the republicans who say they aren’t religious are only bullchitting themselves and don’t realize just how many Christian values they hold.

The ones who admit they believe in God, are being more honest than the Trump supporters who claim they don’t. Although believing in God is already no different than believing in Santa Claus or the tooth fairy, God is Santa Claus for adults so anyone who uses God as their source of objective truth is already a clown. You would be hard pressed to find many atheist Trump supporters as a result.

Conservatives consider themselves to be the “normies”. So my question is, WHAT is normal? And who decides what is normal and what isn’t? Normal always changes. How the phuck are conservatives for preserving normalcy when normal is always changing?

just because I am an atheist (technically agnostic but I don't believe there is a higher power) doesn't mean I cannot agree or appreciate their values

That's actually a valid point. You don't necessarily have to believe in God or all the events of the bible to agree that the principles of Christianity particularly from the gospel onward are virtuous and are a good goal.

Also lol at belief in god being like santa clause. The only people I've ever met that have that mindset never moved past a childlike understanding of religion. In fact it's a massive problem in the church today - a poor transition from a childlike belief system to one that actually fits into the world we live in (which completely destroys childlike belief).

You appreciate their values, but are their values necessarily the Truth? I can appreciate Taliban values, does that make me right? Does merely appreciating someone else’s values make them right?

Do you believe Christian values are right? And if so, then they’re right according to who? Could it be…God? That’s what Christians use to back up their values as being “correct”.

It’s the opposite, the people who believe in a sky daddy have a childlike mindset. God is literally called “Father” by adults. The carrot/stick approach only works on children. “You do this bad thing and punishment!” If you’re a good boy, you get your carrot.

Maybe some people believe in freedom and liberty ?

Why does it matter if that person is agnostic , a racial minority, gay , trans , etc if their overall political values align more with Republican candidates ?

Conservatives are conserving traditional values not sure what kind of stupid question you are trying to ask.

Just because you make some mangled mental logic jumps on majority of republicans being Christians etc.. it doesn’t change or effect the object a conservative would be seeking to conserve.

Even ignoring some of your stupidist leaps of logic (like rambling off about trump supporters despite the fact the always trumpers are basically extremist fringe elements created in response to similarly positioned sheep on the left side of things)

I can’t help but question why you boil it down to hrr durr “what are you even conserving” again it’s traditional values and culture. You made no actual compelling arguments just regurgitated a bunch of nonsense. If anything you could attack how stupid it is for conservatives to push for economic growth and technological progress which inevitably leads to societal change, but the nonsense you wrote is garbage.

My own view of organized religion has lightened considerably over time, taking a more understanding or empathetic stance. Life is hard and awful things happen to people. It's a lot more comforting and secure to believe that there's someone pulling the strings or that events have meaning. Makes you feel good to acquire certainty.

Having said that, organized religion as an institution is guilty of some of the worst atrocities across human history. Everyone knows this. It also brings out the worst in tribal-minded people that can't seem to comprehend that a religion, like christianity, is supposed to be an overarchingfaithand not apeople.

Kindly now stepping out of this thread.

Dealing with people who want to make bad faith arguments to dictate the line of what’s traditional in a context similar to say an areas “colloquialisms” is exhausting. You know damn well what’s meant and just want to act like a 10 year old trying to win an argument. I already have a 8 and 6 year old.
