More game sequels should reuse their open world maps like tears of the kingdom
Honestly and especially as most AAA games are now taking a decade or more to make sequels, however I think the real problem is most of these studios simply lack the creativity to do it effectively, and so use the new location as a main selling point.
BOTW to Totk = 6 years
GTA 5 to GTA 6 = 10 years (and counting)
Skyrim to ESO 6 = 12 years (and counting)
I could go on.
And the thing is you know when GTA 6 and ESO 6 do come out, they ain't gonna reinvent the wheel.
It's gonna be the same exact gameplay just new missions in a new location.
Nintendo got a sequel out in 6 years, on time, with no delays, polished to perfection and just killed it with insanely creative new gameplay options and jamming the game full of so much **** to do I'm gonna be playing it for the next couple of months.
Granted they added a load of new sky island and an entire underworld below the main map, but they had the main map, the engine, loads of assets to start out with. If they had started from absoloute scratch we would be waiting another 6 years.
Idk if anyone remembers the GTA 4 DLCs that both used areas of the map that weren't really used in the main game, to great effect.
I still have absoloutley no idea why rockstar didn't at the very least remake RDR 1 when they already made half the ****ing map for it in RDR 2, oh yeah that's right because they are lazy **** heads dining out on GTA online.

6 years is on the high end of development.
Not really fair to use GTA since they'd rather just keep printing money with microtransactions. Similar to how Valve mostly abandoned making games to focus on hats and weapon skins.
Who knows what's going on with ES6 though. Maybe they just enjoy reselling Skyrim on every platform.

I don’t trust other devs to do it in a way where it still feels fresh and creative

The only games that come out at less than say 5 year intervals are linear games like resident evil, they pump them out quite quickly. Sports games, fps sometimes.
Honestly if you get a sequel to your favourite game in under 5 years I think that's really good these days.

Nope, why? Because of new tech. This problem will be fixed by AI in the next couple of years.
Hell, AI will get so good even the biggest idiot van make a AAA open world game in 10 years with AI tools.

not fair to compare GTA though
GTA 5 was huge. Like, it had everything.
GTA 6 is going to a new location, Miami, and will once again probably have everything but in a new way, because of all the water. PLUS they are going to re-launch GTA Online for the new map....
GTA 6 is going to be absolutely massive.
They need time.

I'm actually really glad that FF16 isn't open world. I would rather they take the time to build out each scene and create stunning linear levels than a vast empty open world.

Horizon 4 to 5 was 3 years. It had an entirely new map, runs at 4k 60hz on consoles.

I think a better idea is to have large games like this come out once a generation and then have one or two fairly large DLCs (that dont cost a full fcking game price) that make the world even more alive/interesting while funding the next gen's version of the world. Better than remasters of old games to fund new projects. Some games come out with DLCs but they usually arent worth the price or arent interesting enough to make you go back to the game.

If it makes sense from a design standpoint for the game a developer is trying to make, then why not, but otherwise no.
Ultimately it's not something any developer "should" do, unless it's a good fit.

6 years for a 100% asset flipped DLC that runs crisp 20 fps in 720p on a console they made themselves and they're hailed as some creative geniuses who released a "polished" game.
