Gonna return the Pixel 7a

And gonna get an IPhone 13 mini

srs

Love base stock Android - the OS gets a bad rap due to Samsung brand-maxing with a secondary unnecessary layer and all the cheap Chinese rubbish

If you consider Google, being the "owner" of Android anyways, as the only Android option the usability and feature richness can even outcompete iOS.

But the ****ing battery drain and lag on some popular apps is insane. Apple's chip mogs and a pocket size iPhone with a much smaller battery lasts close to 2 hours more on average. Insane

As someone that's in the IT field I keep up with tech and honestly the 7a makes no sense to own currently since its $500 and you can find the Pixel 7 for that price and its a better device. I like stock android because there's no bloat to slow it down but Pixel devices are known to have their own set of issues and I was watching a reviewer say that they had bad network connectivity/signal strength which is probably what's causing the battery drain and lag. Samsung phones have great updates but has a ton of bloatware (most can be disabled if not removed)

Depends on if you care if its android or an apple device and aren't tied to the hip on either. Pixel 7 is the best pixel out now if you want to stick with the stock android side but honestly, the iPhone 13 mini is not only small but the battery isn't that big either, if you can splurge, get the regular 13 brah

Interesting. I have a pixel 7 pro and have had the absolute opposite experience regarding battery. The battery on mine has been far better than I expected, and in general the phone seems excellent so far.

That's because the Pixel 7 and 7 pro didn't get inferior internals and are considered flagships, not some overpriced midrange device lol

The mini is appealing just because of the size. I hate big phones. I don't consume all my media on my phone. I'm already well-endowed. I don't need to over-compensate.

How are you going to cope with the fact that there won't be any more minis and the 4th gen SE is not even confirmed. And if they do go ahead with it all design leaks point to adopting a standard IPhone 6'1 screen. It is over.

When it comes to Android, isn't Google the only choice really to be fair? You have Samsung as another major player but they all have massive screens and OS issues.

The rest are some random Motorola and Sony which probably do not have the customer experience and investment potential to make good quality phones.

Then you have Chinese ones which I think end up being more expensive due to needing to be replace so often. From those, OnePlus and Huawei stood out. OnePlus tries to keep its OS stock and smooth but IDK whilst Huawei had strong potential to compete with Apple hardware-wise but they got banned from the West.

In other words, is the only decent Android choice Google?

Depends on what you're looking for honestly, Google and Samsung phones get the quickest updates but I'd prefer Samsung once you debloat it because its better than Google at this point in terms of long-term updates on their midrange and flagship phones. Motorola has stock android but its garbage in terms of updates, OnePlus is also not that great in terms of software updates but makes great phones for the price. Honestly if I was buying a phone now and needed a decent midrange, I'd look at the Samsung a54 or the S23 for a flagship... If not then I'd suggest looking at Apple, most sensible being the iPhone 13... But if you do want to look at what Google has, I'd look nowhere but the Pixel 7, the 6a suffers the same as the 7a and why downgrade when you should sidegrade or upgrade from what you have now

I know you can use ADB to remove the bloat (my PC already has Android SDK installed) but I am sure not many individuals don't remove the bloatware.
Going from the 6a to the 7 pro is a great upgrade! The 7 and 7 pro are just a great device overall honestly, just sucks how Google keeps cucking people with the a series pixels year after year. Funny enough a majority of the components that are in Pixels are from Samsung but honestly I'd rather debloat a Samsung phone and use that, OneUI has the right amount of settings and customization whereas stock android is bare bones in comparison. Also you can run ADB commands but I can see that being intimidating to most, they make automated tools for it now:

I can handle 6.1" The SE4 is said to be in the XR body. The XR was my last work phone. I liked it. But, I'll explore other avenues. The ASUS Zenfone is small. Foldables are getting better. A flip isn't out of the question.

A54 is a decent contender compared to 6a/7a and SE (for budget/mid range). But 6.53 inch screen no thnx jeff; 6.3 in pixel 7

That being said, I am not sure if pro tech reviews agree with you. They agree that Iphones are superior in battery being longlasting but not many say that the 7 is better.

Some reviewers even say that the upgrade is worth it because you get some better specs and 1 year more software + security updates (due to update cycles and release dates).
