So who here has their ham radio licence?

I just recently passed my advanced theory, and finally got my new callsign – I chose VK2FRO (yes, the fro bit is extremly rude!). Of course I use the correct pheonetics when spelling it out over the air.

I got my standard about a year and a half ago, and didnt even bother with the foundation licence, as I already had the electronics skill to comfortably pass the standard (or so thats what my friend who got me to do the test said). Needless to say I walked into the exam room and walked out with a 96% on my standard, and a year and a half later, walked out with an 88% pass on the advanced.

I only have an icom 7000 at the moment – I lent my icom 2100H to a buddy who just got his licence (foundation) so he could get on the air. This feeds into an LDG AT 100 pro autotuner, and a talking wattmeter on HF. My antenna's include a modified station master, a folded dipole, and a 2m/70cm vertical. Upgrades planned are a spiderbeam and a pair of cophased 2m 13 element yagis for FM. (I really do want to pin my mates meter at S9-60+ just to stir him up!)

There is an in joke, with my station, and that is, its AES – aircraft enhanced station. Living under the flightpath on 2m every time a plane goes over the above happens, my mate in granville gets his meter pinned to 60db over, and we all have a good laugh – normally I am a solid 20 over.

Not bad for a station on a small suburban block in the middle of erskineville, complete with houses all around. I manage to operate with out blowing away my neighbours phones or TV, so I guess I am lucky. It helps I had the fixtures in place to bolt the 2m vertical 8m above the roof, and a wall I could bolt another mast to, for the hf gear. A third mast awaits the spiderbeam – I'll be doing a full coax changeover first, as I think my RG 58 has seen better days, and its time to move over to RG213 (my 2m vertical aready has RG213).

So who has their call, and what gear do you operate with?

Sounds cool man one of the peripheral benefits of being a ham radio operator is having the ability to distract yourself when your HTC girlfriend has gone too far at chipotle during lunch and has waddled into your bathroom and is audibly grunting out a behemoth rectum rhinoceros and you can simply sit down and broadcast yelling CQ CQ big daddy delta niner fart panda over I mean of course that won’t save you from the inevitable several hours of aggressive plungering with your 1983 moon bounce tournament runner up tshirt pulled up over your nose after she screams for help when her futile flushing attempts fail but hey you can’t win them all

That does not mean you are completely without risk of course it is a puzzling thing how there is seemingly not a strong correlation between maximum fudge cobra proportions and an individual’s body and/or hiney size I mean if that were the case you would think some of these rotund ham planet ladies would have to be purchasing custom toilets with high pressure flushing mechanisms then again there is a very real epidemic of toilet clogging of which I am attempting to spread awareness and so I do not know where this is really going aside from having really nothing to do with your original post except for using the word ham several times

Negative! Negative! Reboot your receiver.

All the uber hot people are on the HAM these days because the ordinary plebs have taken over the GRAM and hot people don't want to be associated with those pigs. No beauty filters on the HAM you are judged by harsh analog reality.

Dad has been a lifelong ham, and I got my first license around age 12 and went up a few from there. This is back in the late '80s, so code was the hardest part of the test for me.

Haven't been on in years through.

You could use packet radio. It was set up like a BBS and terminal software so some kind of download must have existed. Kermit, Xmodem Zmodem protocol It would be slow AF. 300 - 2400 bps.

Still need to get my ham licence. I've been on the CB since the mid 90's
I've got a wireless set #19 WW2 era ham radio I still need to restore.
