It wasn't an issue that scared me. I'd often find myself shaking my head when watching the news or reading the news on all the potential negative effects could happen if the Democrats and GOP members couldn't reach a deal on raising the debt limit. Journalists do like to promote fear unfortunately.

What's interesting is that foreign and international investors only own just over $7T of the US debt. The rest is either intra-government debt or owned by US individuals, insurance companies, states, etc.

Anyway it doesn't seem reasonable to think it will get paid off anytime soon. It would take a deliberate and long term plan. Which we are incapable of.

If you understood the process of how the Federal Reserve operates you would understand the debt can never be paid off, unless you want to take all dollars out of existence, and collapse everything.

Money is printed out of nowhere, bonds are issued, and exchange occurs.

I remember reading Web of Debt, by Ellen Brown, years ago, and when Congress hashes out budgets never paying down the principle of the debt is already assumed before discussions even begin.

The national debt is at a point of no return, and the US is now in banana republic status. America has nowhere near the needed production capacity to pay that debt off in a financialized economy, where all productive wealth is confiscated by rentiers via fees and usury. Globalization sent all productive capacity overseas.

The balance sheet of the Fed has already been demolished by the rising of interest rates destroying the value of their so called assets. This is why these smaller regional banks have failed, and more financial vehicles had to be set up to buy their falling value at par.

In 08' MBS were toxic, now UST's are.

Debt is only meaningful in context of the productive output of a country. All modern national governments run budget deficits and spend via borrowing. Generally speaking they aren't concerned with the nominal debt figure unless as a percentage of GDP it is excessive, though there is lots of debate over what constitutes excessive debt:GDP.

America's is pretty high right now historically - getting close to where it was during the war borrowing, although a lot of that jump was in the past few years. The UK and other countries have seen much higher debt:GDP in the past.

No, the debt will never be "paid off" in the way you are thinking. Bond holders get their interest payments and capital returned and new debt is issued. The question is whether the productive output of the economy can grow at the same pace as the accumulated debt.

Jew ran central bank loans US dollars to US government with interest. That interest is continuing to compound and the jew bankers at the FED get rich off of the work of the American people.

The US government doesn't make or print its own money. ALL US DOLLARS are loaned to the US from the federal reserve. So it's all supposed to be paid back with interest.
