Trump more popular among GOP, DeSantis more popular among independents

You don't need a poll to know DeSantis would get more independent votes. Since this is the case wouldn't GOP's best political strategy be to get DeSantis through the primaries?

GOP is pooched either way. If Trump runs, he loses. That's 100% certain. If Desantis runs, at least they have a chance if Trumpers don't tank the election for them.

I can't see the GOP nominating Trump, it just doesn't make any sense for the present and future of the party. Just get rid of him already.
