Will there be a new species of monkey that has never existed until one day in our lifetime?

Apparently we didn’t evolve from monkeys, both us and monkeys evolved from a previous common ancestor.

There might be some organisms that reproduce very quickly that might evolve into a new species but I’m not sure. That’s a good question!

My understanding is that the compound effects of biological adaptation that occur with each new generation take many many iterations of the reproductive cycle, and therefore a lot of time, to form what is considered a new species.

Evolution isn’t a perfect description because we only have the fossil record to go by. But it’s the best description we have, certainly more valid than competing descriptions such as the supernatural ones.

I understand it takes a long time for a new species to form but we have millions of different species of animals currently living on our planet that have lived for millions of years. Wouldn't we see at least ONE new species evolve in our life time?

All of the species that currently exists are the most modern, “evolved” version of life that currently exists. I don’t mean “best”, I just mean the most modern because it is the present and not the past which we can only view through the fossil record or comparing DNA.

For us to see a new species emerge, it would take longer than our lifespans. That’s my understanding.

There may be organisms that reproduce very quickly that we would be able to see a new species evolve from in our lifetime, but that would be something like bacteria or another organism that reproduces super quickly.

So to answer your question, it takes longer than our lifetime for new species to form.

It’s like asking why don’t we see new stars form when there are trillions of trillions of stars out there.

because i can think of a current species that has rapidly devolved over the last 50 years

no because the process takes millions of years. If you had the ability to live for a thousand years you still wouldn't be able to notice an evolutionary change in any given species.

you can however notice changes with regards to natural selection, but only in organisms that multiple rapidly in massive enough numbers for the odds of natural selection to take place

like bacteria that can multiply by the millions in a few days will eventually display resistances to antibiotics due to random mutations in their cell wall. because those changes in their structure allow them to live they are the ones that are able to multiply and the reinforced cell wall becomes the new "strain" of bacteria while the original that cannot survive dies out.

Another one involves swallows (the bird) that live under overpasses vs swallows that live in nature on cliffsides. the ones that live under overpasses have shorter wings because it give them more speed to be able to dodge cars as they swoop down to eat insects on the road whereas cliffside swallows still have their longer wings which makes them slower, but more acrobatic.

and all of that isjustnatural selection.

an organism so biologically unique that it cannot create viable offspring with anything other than member of its own group.....with the exception of animals like lions and tigers or horses and donkeys which can produce viable offspring, but they're sterile so the lineage dies with that offspring (ligers/mules).

Species, phylum, kingdom etc are just human biological constructs. Speciation is continuous rather than discrete.
