Should lifters forgo health insurance?

Considering how unhealthy the average American is, we healthy brahs are subsidizing all the obese & drug addicted azzholes in our age demographic.

For the one time I used health insurance to cover my emergency hernia surgery, I've totally paid for that surgery out of pocket many times over in my monthly premiums.

The leading cause of death in the USA for under-50 demographic is drug overdose, and I'm not a drug addict, so why TF am I paying $300/mn for high deductible insurance?

Maybe if I lived in Switzerland or something where everyone is healthy it would make sense, but Americans are obese drug addled slobs.

The only risk is if I snap my pelvis or something mountain biking, but EVEN THEN...... I could just pay for that surgery.

I pay $55 a month for high deductible health insurance and my employer gives me $500 every year in my HSA. Don't work for a poverty employer.

You do realize you can get lab work done for less than $200 lmao. Literally cheaper than 1 months premiums.

Health insurance is a scam ded fkin srs.

When I was in my early 20s I went to the ER for some health concerns that turned out to be nothing. I had no insurance at the time and they hit me with a $2k bill, which I never paid. It went to collections. Never paid that either. To this day it has not shown up on any credit report or affected my life.

Last I checked it was $275/mn for $5,000 deductible. I'm subsidizing the ******** addicts and obese people.

I self insure myself and have insurance for my wife and kids. Even if I didn't have the money I have I would still think saving the amount on premiums would allow my money to go further and cover medical expenses

I mean, I can easily afford a $2,000 bill.....

I just don't want to pay $3k/yr every year to subsidize drug addicts and fat people.

Hospitals build into their financial plans the very real scenario of poor people never paying their bill. You're part of the reason it's so expensive for everyone else.... imagine actually admitting that you received a service and rightfully owed someone money and you just never paid them. You're like the Karen who tells the pressure washer that she's not satisfied with how clean her driveway is and isn't paying.

This is my logic^^^^

Do you still max your HSA to cover random doctor visits?

Hospitals are required to write off so much debt to maintain their non profit status. Even if you tell them you can pay one dollar a month, they have to accept it. No reason to not pay or at least come to an arrangement with the financial office

It's also important to note, you typically get a discount for paying in cash

I max out every tax advantaged account (tax/law/business/trust manager brah). I have the money to pay, but typically consider it part of my salary and write a check from one of the businesses

I don’t pay for my health insurance. It came with my job. I have a $10 co-pay for doc appts, and anything involving the hospital is free. I’m also American for those that think American health care doesn’t exist.

Fuark.

I get nervous about cancelling insurance but literally I don't use it, and the deductible is so GD high that even when I do use it, I still pay the balance with my own money.

It's something I recommend if you have the finances and knowledge on what to do with money to be used for medical purposes. My wife and children have the Cadillac of insurance. Non ACA compliant and covers everything. I actually thought about being on this plan but they denied me for my height to weight ratio lol. Same company gives me life insurance..... I'm gonna die but I may get sick lol (it's different underwriters but still funny)

correct.

"we healthy brahs are subsidizing all the obese & drug addicted azzholes in our age demographic."

And those with chit genetics, and those that live in C clusters, environmental disaster areas, and anything else that you can think of.

You don't need health insurance unless you get cancer or have a stroke. If one of those things happens, you just die.

Some of those surgeries go from (4-10k) to 100-400k or else you take the homeless person solution.

I'm healthy af, had appendicitis when I was working, cost $50k. Paid my max deductible of $6k for that year.. then got a bunch of other stuff done since making my deductible that year.. as why not.. everything is free after $6k.

Broke my collarbone twice mtn biking. Living NEET now and it cost me nothing, but shoulder is still kind of F'd after the second break, and AHCCCS said as long as you ain't dying, you're good. Pretty sure I have a slap type 2 tear. AHCCCS won't pay for surgery.

Sometimes life happens, and most people are only 1 bad visit to the hospital to bankrupt them.

BTW, when we riding? Gonna try to break the other collarbone now.
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.
