From The Times of London: The Chinese military were already creating vaccines in November 2019 so they could use the viruses as potential bioweapons. Then they killed the scientist working on the vaccine.
A vaccine to shift power

The investigators believe the Chinese military had taken an interest in developing a vaccine for the viruses so they could be used as potential bioweapons. If a country could inoculate its population against its own secret virus, it might have a weapon to shift the balance of world power.

The PLA had its own vaccine specialist, Zhou Yusen, a decorated military scientist at the academy, who had collaborated with the Wuhan scientists on a study of the Mers coronavirus and was working with them at the time of the outbreak.

Suspicion fell on him after the pandemic because he produced a patent for a Covid vaccine with remarkable speed in February 2020, little more than a month after the outbreak of the virus had first been admitted to the world by China.

A report published in April, co-authored by Dr Robert Kadlec, who was responsible for the US’s vaccine development programme, concluded that Zhou’s team must have been working on a vaccine no later than November 2019 — just as the pandemic began. One of the US investigators said testimony from scientists connected to the Wuhan institute’s collaborators suggested Covid-19 vaccine work was going on at the laboratory before the outbreak.

In May 2020, aged just 54, Zhou appears to have died, a fact mentioned only in passing in a Chinese-media report and in a scientific paper that placed the word “deceased” in brackets after his name. Witnesses are said to have told the US investigation that Zhou fell from the roof of the Wuhan institute, although this has not been verified.

That's a cool story, but why did China share the covid sequence with us then? And we were helping each other make vaccines. We also have a treaty on bioweapons, and it is in each side's interest to honor it. The US is capable of making far more dangerous nasties and killing way more Chinese via biowarfare.

Do u even know what a Furin cleavage site is? Did you even know what Furin was before 2020? And Shi wasn't the one who shared the sequence with us. Inbred. I am talking about after the outbreak.

Whatever. At the end of the day, the US govt will convince the feebleminded to hate the "others". They will talk us into another stupid war (What else is this possibly for? do you have any jurisdiction in China to do anything? No.). And this will also be used to attack science and scientists at home as part of the same generic fascist Christian fundamentalist plot that has been going on for decades.

And it's all because a bunch of retarded Angloids sucked at math and science and went into law or some other soft bullshyt and have a horrible inferiority complex and cannot cope with the challenges of technology or the problems facing the future of mankind. Sad.

Taiwan isn't secure, the Chinese can pepper the island with 1000s of ballistic missiles or blockade the island and effectively dampen any US response. How would we get supplies to Taiwan if the Chinese Navy and Air Force are surrounding it? An air drop from space? A tunnel under the ocean?

They can, but why would they? Then they get to control a hunk of bombed out crap. And why blockade? China and the US both rely on Taiwan's trade. Everyone is better off under the status quo. If China were to attack Taiwan, it would be a terribly bloody war, and the US would defend it and it would get really ugly with 2 nuclear powers eventually in a naval showdown.

The only problem is if you are a rabid ultranationalist imperialist, you see an opportunity to "contain" China by starting a proxy war in Taiwan. They could turn Taiwan into Ukraine 2.0, and have the US "stay out" of the hot war, just like we did in Ukraine. And that may be what they want to do before China becomes more formidable. The problem with this is we either lose or eventually get sucked in.

If we lose, it was a giant waste of time that killed tons for no reason. And if we get sucked in, it's WW3. The same thing is happening in Ukraine. It's a no win situation. We need to get out of it.

My guess is our proxy warriors saw how Afghanistan has been and want to basically create a state of endless war which contains and gimps rival countries. But it is dumb because eventually the public quits or escalates. Their dreams of endlessly funding the MIC will fail.

From a military invasion? I would say they are not secure.

I don't think the Taiwanese are interested in fighting a war against China though, even if the US wanted them to. I've been watching comments made by Taiwanese officials, Chinese officials, American officials, and movement in the semi-conductor industry. China may be able to absorb Taiwan without firing a shot. Taiwan's only value is its potato chips and they don't sound like they want to cut off China.

Someday, in the very distant future, I see China either giving Taiwan independence or integrating them in a 1 country 2 system style approach similar to Hong Kong. But the best state for Taiwan for at least the next 20 years is the status quo. We need to be very careful with how we use deterrence. The goal is to deter but not provoke. It should never be escalatory.

Dipchit moves like having senior politicians visit and make a show of it or our president openly declaring a change of policy by accident and then walking it back are really irresponsible.

Taiwan is one of the hardest territories to take and is armed to the teeth. It would be a very bloody and horrible battle to try to take it.

If the Chinese actually followed through with a military invasion of Taiwan, here are some things to think about with respect to the island:

- China can destroy power infrastructure and jam communications/navigation prior to an invasion (at night - lights out).
- Bombard the island with heavy suppressive fire to slow any Taiwanese reaction (at night - lights out).
- Use its landing fleet/fishing boats/airlift to drop special operations to secure sensitive areas (they've been drilling this constantly for over a decade).
- Surround the island with fishing boats and its massive navy (good bye supply line).
- Use their many Taiwanese agents to hold Taiwanese politicians hostage (duh).
- Take advantage of its massive A2D2 infrastructure to keep Western forces from getting close to Taiwan.

That's with or without US forces in the region. It's nothing like Ukraine, at all. And they were very much intrigued by the "Shock and Awe" campaign initiated by the United States against Iraq, so they know speed is a great ally to have.

It's hard to say what China is ultimately going to do. The US DOD is (slowly) preparing for one scenario and that timeline for readiness keeps getting pushed up, closer and closer.

I would say the dumbest thing would be to attack US forces in the Western Pacific, because China will not like what comes next and it will hurt. If they go at Taiwan alone, it'll be very difficult for Taiwan to sustain any long term conflict without the US beingdirectly involved.

Attacking Taiwan is harder than Normandy. I don't see it playing out that way. A blockade is possible in the future when China's navy rivals or exceeds ours. But as long as NATO + friends operates in unison, there is no way China would gain from such a blockade given the kind of sanctions we would impose. At worst though, it would be similar to Cuba's situation with the US.

Use their many Taiwanese agents to hold Taiwanese politicians hostage (duh).

I think this part is very likely and obviously happening. That said, Taiwan's political will is clearly against integration but also afraid to declare independence. The status quo is working. I think the CCP won't officially rule out use of force precisely because that would encourage a declaration of independence.

China CAN do a lot of things. Heck, they could also just nuke Taiwan. But it isn't in their interest to do so. And as long as we keep it that way, we can trust the Chinese to not be stupid. We just can't provoke them or give them an invitation.

I hope you are right about the last part as it then means the dreams of a proxy war are hopeless because you are saying we are guaranteed to get sucked in quickly. But I don't think Washington sees it that way.

I won't argue anymore on the nature of Taiwan and what would happen to them if China invaded, feel free to keep your opinions.

A proxy war is impossible without direct US involvement, which it then wouldn't be a proxy war.

It's hard to predict, because as reality gets closer to a "hypothetical" date, actions and reactions become either more desperate or more serious.

Do you think if the United States saw Taiwan falling into Chinese hands (with or without an invasion), they would destroy the potato chip plants?

Do you think China would leak "plans" to get the US to step up its presence and aggression in the region in order to justify a faster military build up, or even a valid reason to invade Taiwan?

There are a lot of things at play right now, and with China, there is a clear history of deception and misdirection. But also a lot of national pride and propaganda riding on merging Taiwan with the mainland. The Politburo can't change course on that and doesn't want to risk failure in that regard.

Do you think China would leak "plans" to get the US to step up its presence and aggression in the region in order to justify a faster military build up, or even a valid reason to invade Taiwan?

There are a lot of things at play right now, and with China, there is a clear history of deception and misdirection.
Yes and Yes. I guess we need to watch out for these. The US scorching Earth would be an irreversible step and a sign of what is to come. We saw what happened with Nord Stream.

And right now, what I am seeing from China is more an attempt at defusing tensions and begging us to stop so idk.

Not exactly new news.

https://www.reuters.com/business/hea...sj-2021-05-23/

What it says is that is that three scientists were presenting with Covid-like symptoms. Not positive testing for Covid AFAIK.

There were also Covid-like symptoms after the Wuhan games in 2019 as well. So that widens the sphere of plausibility back to the entirety of the region, again. That's the problem, the symptoms are so damn generic it would be difficult to distinguish from regular ass bugs and flu that occurs during big international events like that.

Of course symptoms were observed in WIV staff. They would have been observed in Harvard staff, Caltech staff, and staff at the biomedicine faculty a 5 minute walk from my house (Australia). Covid symptoms are common cold symptoms until you do a PCR test or computed tomography.

And the tired old Furin cleavage site argument? Been done to death a million times, and Covid isn't comparable to the signatures we find of actually altered viruses. This is the non-lifting fraud doing his usual thing of spinning a web and connecting invisible dots that aren't there to resuscitate his favorite conspiracy.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

LOL, just as I expected. Maybe leave a scientific discussion to people who understand science, and go back to the gossip thread and plot with your immature e-friends about how to steal my internet points.
