Are you? If you think the overton window in the US is to the left, than you are radically overestimating the effect of culture war issues such as LGBT and abortion. These issues are overblown by the media in an effort to distract you from the actual issues and further divide the populace in endless bickering between the working class.

I choose to focus on things that actually affect all citizens lives materially and what actually slides the overton window one way or the other. In the US, the ultra-wealthy, corporations and their captured government officials continue their successful crusade of neoliberal politics, a right wing ideology subscribed to by both republicans and democrats.

Neoliberalism calls for limited direct government intervention in the economy, systematic deregulation and a dismantling of collective bargaining and union power. Even worse, capitalists abandon this ideology when convenient by hypocritically also crying for government subsidies to boost their profit margins and socializing losses via bailouts when their overly risky businesses fail. As a result, we have massively widening wealth inequality, concentrated market power in a few industry players, and some of the worst social health scores (education, healthcare, crime etc.) in the western world, especially when considering the cost.

We are far closer to descending into fascism (capitalists supporting one party/person rule with extreme militarism/nationalism and dedicated scapegoats) than we are anywhere near socialism (democratic control of the means of production), much less communism (no private property, equal outcomes etc.)

Oh, well that's rather convenient. For such a "far right overton window" we sure do enable a lot of moochers/have quite the welfare state in this country as well.

With that said - I do agree with some of what you're saying.
