how about when the misc reopened and you swore you grew up and would be cool and it took like four days before you had a meltdown

then for a place you are so desperate to be a part of - you will try to purposefully destroy it or at least make it unappealing to others because you broke the rules

that's insanity

Anyway, ignoring Russian derailment, Stalin was a pretty cool dude, and it's fun and cool to dismember nazis.

OP, are you Wincel? You can PM me if you don't want to admit it here.

Have you considered working in academia on political science or political philosophy? Academia is still fairly sturdy stronghold for Marxist thought. You'd still be in your country, unless you moved overseas, but you'd be amongst some pretty intelligent like-minded thinkers.

Marxist ideals are still prevalent in sociology especially with all social justice stuff and the uprising of the LQBT community and wokeism etc. And plus, academia is mostly left leaning because it encourages critical thinking and dealing with a plurality of complex positions.

You could do some good work here.

Thank you for acknowledging some of my points have merit even if you don't fully agree - it truly does show some ability to have your perspective altered which is rare and commendable.

To further the discussion, I would not characterize the mere existence of basic social safety nets like unemployment insurance, social security and medicaid/care as evidence of the US being on the left of the overton window. They are leftist in their essence, but it turns out such programs are a necessary concession given their impact on social stability. I'm not aware of any western country who does not have some type of social safety nets for this reason, despite them all being capitalist. Capitalists have even made peace with these basic programs because it is dangerous to have a labor force that's so on the edge that they consider organizing and creating unrest for the ruling class. Civil unrest is largely bad for business.

These programs also create demand to offset their cost, since it turns out that unemployed and old people spend their social security checks... on goods and services that capitalists own (GDP). People going to the hospital (whether covered by private or public insurance) generates profits, employs healthcare workers and generates need for medical supplies. Some companies take it even further and use these safety nets as an excuse to provide their workers with less than living wages and paltry benefits (looking at you Walmart). Finally, from a moral perspective, I prefer people to have some baseline assurance that they won't die in the streets from treatable illnesses or go hungry because they failed to find employment or can't work anymore. I don't want people to suffer needlessly because they have some disability or are merely a victim of a recession that capitalism inherently creates, completely out of their control.

That being said, I personally think that the abuses and "moochers" of such programs are relatively immaterial compared to the overall good they provide. Every system will have abusers and we should design ways to prevent them where feasible, but that fact alone should not be a reason to dismantle or scale them back.

I choose to focus on things that actually affect all citizens lives materially and what actually slides the overton window one way or the other. In the US, the ultra-wealthy, corporations and their captured government officials continue their successful crusade of neoliberal politics, a right wing ideology subscribed to by both republicans and democrats.

Neoliberalism calls for limited direct government intervention in the economy, systematic deregulation and a dismantling of collective bargaining and union power. Even worse, capitalists abandon this ideology when convenient by hypocritically also crying for government subsidies to boost their profit margins and socializing losses via bailouts when their overly risky businesses fail. As a result, we have massively widening wealth inequality, concentrated market power in a few industry players, and some of the worst social health scores (education, healthcare, crime etc.) in the western world, especially when considering the cost.

We are far closer to descending into fascism (capitalists supporting one party/person rule with extreme militarism/nationalism and dedicated scapegoats) than we are anywhere near socialism (democratic control of the means of production), much less communism (no private property, equal outcomes etc.)

Excellent point. It's the bare minimum social support they can provide to prevent revolution. When people (mostly Americans) call the US "left", they basically mean left of hitler or total laissez faire capitalism. LOL

No...there's no such thing as a "real communist"...most people who claim to be are pathetic posers who's lack of knowledge pertaining to that ideology can fill a book. They're all imbicils who take every opportunity to flourish in a Capitalist society and pretend they are somehow fighting the same system that awards them all the things they desire. It's the very definition of do as I say, not as I do. Not one of them....not one practices what they preach because deep down, they understand the flawed logic behind that pathetic ideology.
