Desantis continues to ruin the middle class. He is bought and paid for by big auto dealers. He is a complete dirt bag.

Good. Imagine investing 5M+ dollars of your own money into a dealership and then having the manufacturer cut out your sales department altogether by selling direct.

Its also hilarious how idiots think the dealer network doesnt benefit them as consumers. It creates competition which lowers prices and the profitability of the sales departments means you also have service and parts departments scattered everywhere. Scrap sales, and service departments will be operated by the manufacturer and they will be few and far between.

More might feel this way if cars weren't marked up 12K over MSRP by the dealerships.

Let the consumer decide how he chooses to purchase his vehicle, not the State.

Also, I may be wrong on this, but the dealership model doesn't extend to electric vehicles??

Disagree. Tesla pioneered direct to consumer sales, and is a much better experience than dealerships. The fact that the Florida Automobile Dealers Association basically co-wrote this bill speaks volumes.

When people wonder why we have so many BS laws, regulations, and bills in government, it's the lobbies that put them there. Competition is good for the consumer.

Again, I could be wrong, but I believe that extends to all car manufacturers pertaining to their electric vehicle models?? Legally, for electric vehicle only, they dont have to use the dealership model?

I mean, this is kind of a weird position. It keeps auto sales industry for car dealerships thriving. That is probably a good thing overall for the state of Florida. But I'm not sure on the constitutionality of it.

Federal officials tell automakers not to comply with Mass. right-to-repair law.

This was a law voted in by the majority to have access to car parts, repair manuals and independant repair shops. The fed govnt is telling car manufacturers to ignore all of that, make cars that only they can repair, and collect information on its owners without telling them.

Make no mistake about it, the fed govnt will control your car in the near future, through the help of these car manufacturers.

This. People dont realize how expensive car ownership will be if you hand over too much control to good old Corporate manufacturers. Locally owned dealerships (as much as I hate their mark ups) will save you a chit load of money in the long term.

Before you know it, these manufacturers wont even sell you cars, just lease them so you never become an owner. Now you're their property because you depend on THEM to get to work and function.

Well thats taking a 3 year supply and demand driven snippet of a 100 year old industry. And nothing would stop manufacturers from adjusting MSRPs to suit the market. Direct to the consumer sales does nothing but ensure you pay MSRP forever. Without dealer lots and over stock there will be no rebates and no reason to discount cars.

There are also tons of products that you can't buy directly from the manufacturer. Most of the products you buy actually.

Tesla doesnt have any contracts with dealers so for the most part they skirt around dealer agreements and laws.

You dont understand what's going on, dude. Look into the Right to Repair law. These modern cars, especially EV's, are completwly controlled by electronics. The manufacturers designed the cars to be impossible to repair without access to it's diagnostic information.

The whole reason why the law was proposed and passed was because manufacturers were NOT letting shops/individuals repair their own cars. The diagnostic software was being locked so that only the manufacturer would know what is wrong with it.
Then a car manufacturer is made that let's you fix your own cars.
Yea im sure the govnt wont regulate the chit out of the industry and prevent a self repair manufacturer from ever existing in the first place. The car manufacturers spent an unprecedented amount of money lobbying against Right to Repair. But it passed anyway. So the fed govnt is now telling manufacturers to just ignore the law, for "Public safety reasons". What makes you think the govnt would let a self repair manufacturer even exist in the first place? They're already opposing the Right to Repair law saying it's a public safety concern.

And you're the one that's anti business, anti-small business.

Edit: all that being said, im not against manufacturers selling direct to consumers. Im against the manufacturers attacks on dealerships/independant shops/individual owners ability to work on their own cars. They're trying to control every aspect of car ownership.

why would i buy a car like that?
I already avoid cars too new because fixing them is a PITA and some of the engineering choices are dumb AF and take a day to fix when on older cars takes a few hrs.

Libs have no room to criticize others for anti-car legislation, they OWN it with all of their increasingly radical regulations they impose upon the entire industry.

Same here. But do you plan on driving that car for the rest of your life? Eventually you wont have a choice but to "upgrade" to a newer car. Especially with all these commie climate change regulations being implemented.

Easy fix here seems to be for car manufacturers to spin off their electric car divisions under a new brand while keeping both the electric division and the hybrid/gas one corporate umbrella. That buys the car dealerships time to prepare for the end, but even so, that law should have a timeline.

My 23 y/o daughter will probably get a model Y when the next version comes out. I like that it's safe, and she likes the car. Tesla navigated the system well and are able to decrease the legacy costs traditional auto makers are still stuck with. Florida clearly didn't help anyone except the car dealerships, and they should have put time limits on that law to accommodate change and let every manufacturer sell electric cars direct. It sounds like mixed manufacturers like Ford can't even sell their mustang electric direct to consumers, although Ford claims they don't want to. Instead, they're setting dealer rules.

Thankfully we have a perfect market where corporations would never pass laws to stymie new car manufacturers. Or create enough fake news bullchit with their buddies in media and govt to force them out of business. Preston Tucker would like a word with you....

I don't see it that way. Do you think you'll save money? You won't. It's just a way the big auto manufacturers can bypass the dealerships and all of the jobs associated. Then they can outsource all of the jobs that are needed. Everyone hates on car salesmen but they do provide a service. Anyways, Carvana was supposed to change everything. What happened to that? I know.

If you care enough about it, then only buy a car that anybody can fix. The market will settle it, banning stuff never works.

If you built an auto repair shop, you chose to be a service industry that relies on large manufacturers. Don't complain that you're not self sufficient.
