How do we fight White Supremacy in the United States?

As you all know, both the KKK and the Knights Templar have been terrorizing cities across the country with their hateful, racist ideology. These groups are constantly causing problems and are the source of so much destruction in this country.

We have not seen groups this hateful since The Three Musketeers.

How do we solve this issue? I know the immediately obvious to solution is to start shooting whites in the ****ing head with a gun for being racist, but I'm not sure it is that simple.

What do you think?

I'm not sure why this is brought up in protest in these conversations. Since when is a proposal for the cause of my own claims an argument against my claims? My claim is that Jamal and Tyrone are immoral and unproductive. You are welcome to speculate on why that is the case. It's not an argument for you to offer reasons why I am correct.

I will watch it - mainly because the intial claim of the article is totally baffling to me. The phrase "a trigonometric proof of the Pythagorean Theorem" has a strong "I used the stones to destroy the stones" vibe.

Well, not even that, it sounds more like "a topological proof that the union of open sets is open" in that I am referencing an entire field of math in order to prove a fundamental concept that the whole field is based on in the first place.

Though, I will have to watch the video. I highly doubt what I'm saying is true (as there's no way this video would exist if it was), it's just how the phrase comes off, and I'm sure I'm not the only one to react that way to wording it like that.

I do think that I'll come out of this still thinking that it is not news worthy at all. No one has written a trigonometric proof of the Pythagorean theorem for the same reason that no one has translated the Magna Carta into Elvish.

I think philosophically, trig functions can be defined in terms of triangle side ratios in Euclidean geometry or alternatively in terms of series or exponentials. So you have these trig functions existing sort of independently of Euclidean geometry. You also have convergence of series in calculus possible independent of geometry as well. And the law of sines follows from the definition of sine once you relate it to the sides of the triangle and is independent of Pythagorean thm. I don't really know much about foundations, but as I understand it, there are core axioms like those of Hilbert or Tarski, which are used to build Euclidean geometry. I think with those alone + trig function definitions, you can actually build theorems of geometry, even though we conventionally start by thinking of taking the axioms, building geometry, and then defining trig functions and using the geometric relations to inform the trig ones. The trig ones all exist independently. Like every identity you write down in trig is formally an identity for some series. It doesn't require any explicit connection back to Euclidean geometry until we give those functions that interpretation.

I could be wrong though. Maybe somewhere there is circular reasoning, and it has been snuck in.

Regardless, it still is a cool proof and is notable because 2 young black kids figured it out themselves.

Your point seems to just be that trigonometric fuctions exist as mathematical objects regardless of what human beings pretend those functions are talking about. Yes, I can define sin(x) and have no knowledge of triangles whatsoever, and can regard it as totally "useless" function that is just some random function, and this is of no consequence whatsoever.

Any circularity will probably be one of pedagogy and practicality, not one of a strict logical violation.

Yea and just to note, they are using the standars geometric definitions. I was just saying that since we can view it in the other way, it makes sense you ought to be able to use trig to prove the geometric relationships in principle.

We start by acknowledging that racism is hating someone for the color of their skin, not making an observation about someone that happens to be black. Racism extends to other groups. Not just black people, like the media wants you to believe. White Supremacy is thinking white people are superior to other groups. I have never once met a white supremacist. Sure, people make jokes and such but normal people just do that. never once met a white person that just flat out hated other races because of their skin color.

We have all met someone from another race that hated whites though.
