Do you know how butt phucked the US would get in a war with China on their turf? Supporting Taiwanese independence would just antagonize China and motivate them to take Taiwan. Time to realize the US doesn't call all the shots

Oh boy.

Get ready for the "America First" brigade who wants us to not get involved in anything...to come in here and call Biden weak for not getting involved.

Begrudgingly I'd say for the short term it makes sense to say the Biden regime doesn't support Taiwan independence. Let the next President be the one to piss off China, as most of the world supports Taiwan independence.

itt we think Taiwan is currently considered independent by the international community and that this is somehow a change and not a reiteration of existing policy as seen by literally the entire civilized world.

How does supporting Taiwan independence work? Like you just say empty words, "we support Taiwan independence" or you're actually going to get involved military if China moves on Taiwan?

This isn't a new stance for the US though. We've never formally recognized Taiwan as an independent nation.

Wow, you can actually see that no lube was used.

Interesting how Taiwan, key producer of the technology that keeps us in the modern age, is less important to the administration than Ukraine, a glorified farm.

Are you prepared to go fight in Taiwan or your just an American who likes to talk but not back it up?

Taiwan is functionally independent right now. There is no reason to antagonize China over meaningless words and platitudes.

United States as well as other 192 member states of the UN have never been supporting Taiwan independence, as it would be a precedent of legalized separatism.

Half of NATO states also have separatism problems, i.e United Kingdom, Spain, Greece, France.

As well as Ukraine which the west supports in Ukraine's war against Donbass separatism. But bodybuilders aren't brain builders I guess.

This is the US' official position anyway. Taiwan declaring independence would start a fuking war. Taiwan knows we have their back if Xi tries some bullshyt, but only if he provokes it.

We need their chips. I doubt we will give up on them. Also, a concession now while the Ukraine crisis is going would make us look really chitty to allies.

China shouldn't be a pariah.

Good. A China Taiwan civil War is none of our business.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

So much for securing our oil hegemony.

Ukraine was stupid to get involved with, and so is Taiwan. If we ever get any competent leadership back in our government, we need to pull back, rebuild, and re-project strength when able. Special and outside interests are whittling our country down to bare bones. You thought Soros made it out big when he shorted the British pound? Think about how many wealthy parties are banking on the fall of the United States (they're even actively contributing to it). US business leaders like Musk and Gates rush to China to say "Hey, we're still here with you!! Let's make some MONEY!!!".
Nobody wants the US to fall tho. China is also heavily invested in and reliant on the US. It isn't zero sum. The entire world will be plunged into abject poverty if our economy collapses. Millions will starve, and not in the US.

We just need to stop being dicks. That's literally all.

If we want ppl to work with us, we should be more diplomatic and actively try to help the world. We irresponsibly bombed and ruined other countries. We should not cry when they run to China's arms.

It is not seeking hegemony. Historical precedent is set in imperialism and a prenuclear world, largely dominated by Angloids. China will demonstrate a new theory of International Relations based on multipolarity and a strong UN.

I do. They did an excellent job.

China has made zero effort to export its political system or impose any changes on the ways of life of other countries, unlike the Angloids/Amerikunts.

If we just zoom out, the last 3 decades have been a disaster. America has abused its power. It is time for some new voices to be heard. America's vision for the world as a capitalist dystopia where 4% of the population uses 1/4 of the stuff, and where there is a special class of a billion or so thriving while everyone else licks their boots is a fail model. It's time for a different model and a change of scenery.

How can you be America First and not get involved with the rest of the world?

Protecting Taiwan is in America's interest as China is it's biggest threat.

Ukraine would be an example of America Last, there is no gain.

There is plenty of loss there though, in Ukraine, in America.

With resources lost it's hard to defend where it matters.

That lack of defense... that loss is China's gain.

Xi has not increased his military spending as a percent of GDP. Their military growth is proportional to their economic growth. It is for deterrence. Where does ours fit in? What the hell have we been doing? They'd love to spend less if we would spend less, but we refuse to ever cut that. So why should they trust us? Oh we mean so well right? When our senior politicians vow to destroy their economy, and our generals muse about nuclear strikes on China? Yea but we are the good guys right?

We are the ones provoking conflict. China has sent many signals of reluctance to fight. They will fight if they must and be ready, but they do not want a war with America. God, why would anyone want a war with us? Even NK just wants us to let them develop and trade and grow. There is pretty much zero intention to attack us since the retaliation would be devastating. People are just desperate and sick of being under the boot.

We could solve a lot of these issues, develop a ton of goodwill, and promote global security. But instead, we continue to bully and make trouble everywhere.
