Do you use recruiters when hunting for a job?

There’s some companies that literally spam call me because I talked with them once. Seems like once you get into their system, tours over.

“Hey OP, I found your resume in our system and thought you would be a great fit for this chitty position I’m recruiting for”

Even though I don’t answer or reply, some other person will reach out from that company like a month later with the same thing but for a different role.

Recruiters are only useful if you’re a rockstar and going for senior level roles. Those are the roles staffing firms usually get. Especially contracts that pay a lot

Maybe it's just the ones in my local area that are chit then. The roles are usually for support or as an engineer working with outdated tech. I had one recruiter reach out with a juicy role but it was for only 6 month contract.

No, they are parasites. Apply directly and you can get more money since the company doesn't have to pay these people.

Weekly I get someone emailing me at least once or twice trying to recruit me to work for them. Either a recruiter or the company directly. It's nuts.

Edit: I work in technology, mainly doing hardware design. The industry is suffering from a serious lack of talent.

If they contact and recruit me for a job I have no issue with it.

However, their fee is damn near 50k for my position if I stay a year. I am pretty sure I can use that differential to negotiate a better salary for myself.

Fuk no, they make money by pocketing the difference between what a Client would charge and what they actually end up paying out

No they don’t incel. Clients usually pay a much higher bill rate to agencies just so they can get the talent. Trust me I know. My contract last year was close to 110 per hour and the agency I worked with was charging 135 per hour. It’s the most I’ve ever made so everyone is happy. You have to also consider they’re taking care of all the overhead and payroll

I was talking to a ****** recruiter once who wanted to represent me to X company. He asked me if $40/hr was an acceptable rate. I told him "yeah, that's what I'm shooting for. $35 to $40."

Two hours later, that fukker sent me a new contract offer that said $35/hr. I was like WTF. He said "old offer was not binding, please agree to this new one."

I'm usually really agreeable, but that lit me up. I wrote him a rage mail basically calling him an underhanded sack of chit. He was like "it was not me, it was my manager!" I told him that I didn't care which one it was and went NC.

Hope both of those fukkers choke to death on a penis.

A lot of the bigger tech companies that pay the most use staffing companies for their high level tech roles for contract specifically because it’s cheaper and you won’t know about them unless you’re working with an agency. You can always go Corp to Corp with an agency lmao. You think you’re getting a position with Meta by yourself lmaooo?

No clue that's not my industry, I know how it works in my industry with recruiters vs companies and I consult in management / controls

Going through a recruiter would immediately mean less money for me in my position, hence why I incorporated a company and work through that -- which is what's done by seemingly everyone worth their salt

I don't think I've ever gotten a reasonable call from an Indian recruiter. It's either something I'm completely unqualified for, they want me to do something unethical like doctor my resume, or it's just ridiculous.

There aren't many pros while you are looking yourself.

It is when you are open to employment, but don't actually want to be putting in the work to apply for places.

Particularly for senior level positions. 100k+ Rural, 200k plus city.

I get it the other way. 90% of them try to recruit me for jobs I am totally unqualified for.

"Can you apply for senior staff hardware design role?"

The job description says that they want 15 years experience. I have 3. Why am I reading more about this position than you?

In my neck of the woods, there is zero reason you can't create your own company and essentially do what the recruiters are doing but directly subcontracted to the clients cutting out the middle man and taking all the money

This is standard for good people around me, recruiting agencies are this on steroids and they bill you out at $xxx then pocket the difference. I've worked with dudes who try setting up their own smaller versions of this too, they'll have a handful of people who they line up with projects and try to pay you less so they can scoop up their slice of the pie.

If recruiters are approaching you and offering this or that, you know their client is paying them more than what they're offering you

I get a bunch of those too. The job title is "Software Engineer" but the description is all stuff I've never even seen.

Sometimes its a good idea. If you aren't a good negotiator or they want to overrepresent you because your cv/resume sucks, then do it. I just don't trust them at all.

I would rather have a solid referral from a vendor or customer about a prospect. They have no direct vested interest to lie and I'm not gambling a bunch of money on a maybe he won't be a retard. I'll get a spam saying this guys is an xyz and I know the guy personally... he can't even spell xyz.

Cool, but try that in tech with the bigger companies. You are not working as a consultant in big tech looking by yourself

Why do the recruiting companies have so much power? That's some bullchit

I know lawyers and doctors etc do the exact same thing I'm doing, so not really sure why it would be different for big tech

Inb4 the recruiting companies are owned by the big tech companies and all are in cahoots conspiring to pay people less

I have. But my market for finding a job is probably vastly different than the majority of others out there. Between recruiters and job boards it's pretty easy to get a job quickly. The faster recruiters can get you a job the faster they get paid, so it's the quickest option out there for me.

This. They know the companies and specifically what they want. Better to annoy them with your stupid questions than the companies themselves as they obviously wanted someone else to deal with that stuff instead of them. You're just going to be an annoyance and rather than being introduced and talked up positively beforehand or not getting any beforehand background on the company you're going to look like the guy just randomly cat calling companies hoping for a job.

If $40 wasn't written, I don't even see that as bold; just par for the course chittiness from a recruiter. Fkn hate recruiters. Been cucked a couple times myself.

Oh you passed our 6 rounds of interviews? Sweet we'll have a team placement for you next week. *2 months later after constant breadcrumbing*: yeah, we actually don't have a spot for you now, but we'll keep looking. I also fell for the promised salary being 30% higher than what they actually offered meme. Grr.

Yeah I heard you can get a lot more being on a contract.

One thing that irks me is when recruiting staff modify my resume. They don’t really lie or anything (I caught one that was trying to lie but that was couple years ago), but will use stuff I have on my LinkedIn (like listing all my certs), move my education to the top, or bold a bunch of words.

I get that it’s suppose to stand out, but sometimes legit looks like someone straight out of college wrote it.

I haven’t really had a good experience with a recruiter yet tbh but I know a few people who have.
