Anyone else root for Walter White?? Breaking Bad

Rewatched BB recently and saw comments on YouTube. General feeling was that Walt was a bad guy and everyone was rooting for Jesse and Hank catching him.

To me, Jesse is a lil biatch. All he did was cry, make things worse with stupidity, the epitome of soyboy.

White meanwhile represents man’s need to provide, and ascend, by whatever means, to climb to the top. He wasn’t bad like Hector or Gus, he wasn’t an Angel either. He clearly had some morals and dilemmas even in committing some crimes. But I can respect what his goal was, family and pride first, fk the world.

Isn’t that how the rest of the world lives? I mean, you can claim to be virtuous and care about the world but you’d spend $100 on those sneakers when you can save a bunch of kids from starvation in Africa with that money. You prioritise yourself and the people around you first.

Hank meanwhile follows the law to the book. Confiscating Walt’s money, that’s to be left to HIS family, so what, he can give it to the government? Why does the government deserve it more from Hank and Walt’s perspective? Family first?

Law is not morality either, it’s subjective and arbitrary. Age of consent in one country is 16, another 18. Divorce laws aren’t exactly moral either.

Always thought most people rooted for Walt, is that not the case?

If you don't root for the guy who ditched his NPC wagie life, red pilled himself, and died chasing the MOGGER dream, what could we possibly have to talk about? Probably just sit there in silence.

Was Jesse Walt's twink? I never understood the point of him being with someone like Walt outside of maybe the first episode he appeared in.

I thought the ending sucked tbh, Walter should have come out on top, just rode off into the sunset with all his money.
There is but one path....we kill them all.

Surprises me too.

If anything I hated the guts of his wife and felt indifferent about his handicapped son. Would've ditched them both and done coke & hookers b4 death tbh.

the reason breaking bad was the goat show was because there were no clear cut 'good guys and bad guys'; just like real life

most people like to think of themselves as the good guy when in reality everyone is flawed

i liked walt's attitude of not giving a fuk about morals and doing whatever it takes (5% for life lol)

he was a cuck though, practically begging his wife to stay with him knowing she fuks her boss, so the misc is going to have trouble cheering for him

hated jesse, little soyboy who just constantly fuked everything up, walt saved his ass so many times which he never acknowledged just pissed and moaned whenever something didn't go his way
if it wasn't for jesse walt and gus would have kept a solid business relationship going, it was only when jesse started crying about 'using kids to sell drugs' that everything went to chit

Agree with OP. I rewatched the entire thing a few weeks ago as well. Walt was a solid dude, it just ended up getting to his head big time once he excelled in something that would have been inconceivable to him just a little while back. Which is also understandable since he was facing a grim death since day one. He got to feel what it was like to be truly alive for once.

I was only really "rooting" for Jesse to come out of it with a vaguely happy ending, he was the only one in the show who seemed to have a genuinely good heart but spiralled down the wrong path and he was constantly getting the worst end of the stick in every situation

I thought walts death was very fitting - secured his children's future (the reason he started), finally felt "alive" doing something he was the best at and recognised for (the reason he kept going), and then killed not by the cops or the cartel/nazis but only by his own bullet

Also he killed Mike so phuck him

Wow misc didn’t let me down. I think this maybe a personality thing. Most people here are conservatives and driven towards the same value. Desire to ascend in the world, pick yourself up by the bootstraps thing.

Walt was a maths teacher constantly getting jogged by his brother in law who’s a lot dumber than him.

He became a G. And people will use their “I’m morally superior to you therefore better than you” argument but that’s bollocks. Man has an innate desire to go slay some dragons.

His wife was despicable but I seen feminists and a lot of women justify her decisions. I think loyalty is all that matters in a marriage. If my wife murdered someone, provided it wasn’t out of pure evil, like she murdered a drug dealer who tried to extort her, then I’d help her bury the body.

Hank was gloating as he arrested Walt. Why are you happy you’re gonna let this man die in jail? And still Walt begs for his life. He was just about to take yours and put it in a cell.

Jesse is the most useless ungrateful entitled soyboy in a series. I have no idea why people like him.

Being nice is not a virtue. Being competent and doing nice things with that is a virtue.

Walt, Mike and Gus are the 3 best characters in the series for me. They did what was necessary but they weren’t “evil”.

This. He is kind of a Macbeth character where his reckless ambition bites him in the arse when life finally allows him to act this way because he cannot stand not being part of the success of grey matter and has to scrub wheels and teach retards chemistry.

For people saying Jesse turns into a cuck, this is what is supposed to happen. A lying degen ends up being more moral than a dying teacher trying to provide for his family.

My opinion of Breaking Bad was that Walter didn't go far enough. I was fully expecting there to be a showdown between Walter and Hank, ending with Walter deciding he was going to kill Hank to preserve his freedom and not give up his power and manhood for the sake of conventional justice. At the end he was willing to go quietly to prison with Hank having absolutely no feelings of guilt in doing so.

Also Walter stayed with his wife even after she admitted to getting her back blown out by her boss, no fuks given for Walt. He should have had Ted killed or something. Walt was supposed to be the one who knocks.

A bit of a disappointment. Also the follow-up film El Camino was kind of ****, srs.

I disagree, I thought the ending was great. Everything he did consumed him and essentially ruined his and turned his family -- the reason he did it all in the first place -- against him.

Always liked Walter. He wasn't a stone cold killer but he wasn't a pussy soyboy pushover either. Saved Jessie's ass multiple times throughout the show.

Jessie was an ungrateful piece of sh*t who ruined it for everyone at the end.

lol everyone forgot that Mike tried to kill Walter first in that basement before they wacked Gale and left them without a backup chemist. He always blamed Walter for killing his precious boss Gus Fring with no regard to the fact that Gus was trying to murder Walter too. And at the end, he refused to give up names of those prisoners which threatened everyone's freedom.

Yes, his character flaws completely consumed him causing him to entirely lose his way and alienate him from his family.
