If there's one thing I learned the hard way is your best experience of a game is the first time you play it and if you can stand to wait a while after release, the game often gets fixed considerably via updates.

My god, the forested area looked insane ... Probably one of the best forests made in a game. Looks incredibly lush.




Although, gonna be honest .... I'm really not digging the combat system. The action style of game isn't my cup of tea at all and the fact that there's no block button is super fukkin annoying. There's a parry, but the window is so small and tight it feels like you'd have to be one of those DMC autists to pull it off.

The forest was amazing, the music hnnnnnng

Its an action game obvi so you must adapt. There is a block you get with an eikon later but game is focused on dodging. I dont think the parry is even supposed to work most of the time I think its only certain moves or something.

Anyway, just got garuda so gonna be fun learning how to combine the moves.

Garuda's single target multi slash is amazing at creating stagger damage ... brb use the pull halfway and then use the slash to empty the remaining bar and go ham with the fire skills and end with the second garuda attack.



I just played that section that was part of the extended gameplay trailer fight ..... hoooly fuk, this game looks unreal during those eikon moments. Legit "next gen" feels.

Looks pretty fkkin incredible, game is a showcase for what current gen consoles could do ... The environment density is done quite well. I replayed the eikon prologue and my brain still cant believe what these guys are doing in terms of sheer spectacle.
Yeah, it terms of environment density, it's way better than Elden Ring. ER open world felt way too sparse. Even in quality mode. Performance mode just takes out even more of the vegetation.

I saw that there were some pretty decent open areas in FF16 too. I'm actually glad it's not open world. So tired of that chit.

JRPGs have ALWAYS been cutscene heavy, bro. I don't know what older rpgs you are refering to. But western RPGs and JRPGs are not in the same category.

It's just so odd seeing people who have no prior interest in JRPGs, go into FF16 and suddenly be surprised.

How old are you talking? SNES? Sure. PSX? Those final fantasies had a TON of dialogue.

My favorite, FF9, only has a quick tutorial fight in the beginning before you spend a lot of time just walking around as Vivi, then more walking around as Zidane until you finally fight Steiner. It's just a Final Fantasy staple. The only reason it feels like a movie is because the older games just had text boxes galore, and voiceless cutscenes.

Like every other FF (fuk you 13), it will open up and you'll have plenty of time to fight.

Yeah that started with FFX but the FF's before had a lot of gameplay and the "cutscenes" were pretty short.
There are so many PS1/PS2 RPGs without even coming close to the amount of cutscenes FF16 presents.
I played 5 hours now and 80% of my time I am watching a fuking movie.
Battles are PISS easy, is this made for toddlers???
Even Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden offer more challenge in the beginning!

I'm not talking about every RPG, this is about FINAL FANTASY specifically. What do you think those walls of text were in 7,8 and 9? It was essentially just a cutscene with a lower budget and disc space.

Sure, the actual videos were shorter, but they also had no dialogue, and existed only to provide spectacle.

How many times in ff7, 8, and 9 were you clicking X just to get through a huge exposition dump? The only difference now is you don't press X, and get voice acting to go along with it. What other FF's have you played?

And did you honestly expect a FF game to have the crushing difficulty of Ninja Gaiden? There's a game that exists for that niche, and it's called Ninja Gaiden. If you want a JRPG with minimal cutscenes and brutal combat, you play Elden Ring. Not once has FF ever been known for punishing difficulty outside of optional superbosses that required hours of mindless grinding.

Cool demo, I like the combat system and whatnot, but I probably skipped 6-7 of the cinematic scenes. Also, the british kids voice while playing as the Phenix was so damn annoying, what were they thinking?

Also, the main characther looks way more badass on the cover, than compared to in game, wtf? Alpha chad to a bit too close to a lesbian kind of look, at least in the demo

inb4 hate, I realise it's my own fault as well for not falling in love with this one. My patience with cinematics, etc. is simply too bad these days. I'd love this way more 5 years back

Well it is a game made for man-children, so it makes sense how they would make it easy enough for toddlers.

The funny thing is that I don't even like Dark Souls games, in fact I am usually opposed to those as well.

It seems pretty obvious how this is a VERY story driven game. That's fine I guess if you're really into the story, but don't expect me to give a chit.
