84% of U.S. adults had a credit card in 2021. About 73% of Americans have a credit card by age 25, making credit cards the most common first credit experience for young adults.[7]

In Q4 2022, credit card users reached a total of 166 million according to TransUnion, up from the prior three years.[8] Among those users, new card accounts are growing, too. Over the past year, nearly half the population (47.5%) opened at least one new account[9], bringing the total number of accounts to over 518 million by the end of 2022.

Applying for a new card can come with a number of benefits, including access to credit lines, membership benefits and the ability to earn credit card rewards

How do you not use a credit card? WTF is 33% of the US population using to make purchases? It's practically more of a necessity than phones. No way people actually still carry cash.

I'm pretty sure you can overdraft with debit cards too and get hit with a fee. So don't retards still have to be conscious of their spending even with debit cards? I guess it prevents you from continuing to spend if you overdraft but that's about the only benefit. Meanwhile credit cards generally have better fraud protection and offer incentives.

Only stupid people use debit cards over credit cards.

Basically all of my payments have been ATM > cash > pay over the last few years. I've even paid my rent and utility bills plenty of times with cash.

Typically you can set up your debit cards to reject instead of bounce.

However, a twice a year 25 bank fee is still very minor compared to the interest fees.

While people that use Credit Cards correctly win. Those that can't are in a much worse position that those that only use debit.

30% of Americans have between $1,001 and $5,000 in credit card debt, 15% have $5,001 or more in credit card debt and about 6% have more than $10,000 in credit card debt.

AKA over half of people that are using credit cards are wrong.

I've used credit cards since I was 18. Never missed a payment, always paid it off ASAP (usually same week). It's just free points after that, helps me save money on the odd hotel or flight.
