He was told multiple times CF is a no go.Say what you will about this guy but he figured out a way to get down to the Titanic quite a few times (like 30?) before Oceangate imploded. Prolly cut all kinds of corners and makes me wonder how much the total cost for his submersible was vs. a proper job that woulda cost millions more.
Had the guy went down by himself or with financial backers only a few times (enough to pay off his costs/Oceangate) and THEN called it quits due to safety-issues......then he would be still-alive mad-genius in my mind.
At the end of the day his mistake wasn't the xbox controller or construction it was greed.

We will most likely not see another implosion death by deep sea diving for another 100 years thanks to Ocean Gate. This is in contrast to car deaths and crashes we see everyday where people don't seem to learn at all.

he shoulda thought of Oceangate like a pair of rubber kitchen-gloves. Sure you can use them for a while but then one day they break on you. Problem is if he didn't have the money for testing, he sure as Hell didn't have the money for replacement.
he said he wasn't even making money on the 250K dives as his costs were astronomical. Just getting the ship there to drop the submersible musta been expensive let alone the cost of the dive.
and I wouldn't be surprised if some tech guys figure out what he did wrong and try to improve upon it.
btw: you are right about carcels. always confounded how they think they are mogging others when driving is such a dangerous activity at almost any speed.
some billionaire was driving a vintage car a normal car rear-ended him and killed him and his son in a ball of fire. WTF billionaires of the world? be better!

The only memorable thing about his life and death will be all the joke memes it spawns. Guy was a complete blowhard and got what he deserved. It's a shame about the ones he took out with him, especially the kid that didn't want to be there, but they should have known better than to embark on that ship of fools.

"I say Theodore, have you been to outer space yet?"
"Yes Finklestein, I was there last week. What about you? Had tea on the bow of the Titanic lately?"
"Twice last month my friend. But poor little Sandeep here has never been to either."
Sandeep grabs his son and storms out, yelling at his driver "Brad, get the OceanGate people on the phone" as he jumps into his Bentley.

I just feel for the 19 year old. Evidently, he exercised common sense and expressed reluctance and terror at the prospect of this excursion. He had to follow his dad though. Probably got some talk about being brave. And here we are.

I'll be honest, the reporting of this story felt the same as reporting at the beginning of COVID. Just a bunch of speculation and absurd conjecture.

Just finished watching Deep Star 6, and Leviathan is just beginning.
Some pokey nipples were the highlight of Deep Star 6, but even cheesed out movies from 1989 are 1000x better than the garbage woke $hit we have these days.
