We will most likely not see another implosion death by deep sea diving for another 100 years thanks to Ocean Gate. This is in contrast to car deaths and crashes we see everyday where people don't seem to learn at all.

Nah people are getting on him for using carbon-fiber but its degradation is 101. You see this in commercially available cars.

he shoulda thought of Oceangate like a pair of rubber kitchen-gloves. Sure you can use them for a while but then one day they break on you. Problem is if he didn't have the money for testing, he sure as Hell didn't have the money for replacement.

he said he wasn't even making money on the 250K dives as his costs were astronomical. Just getting the ship there to drop the submersible musta been expensive let alone the cost of the dive.

and I wouldn't be surprised if some tech guys figure out what he did wrong and try to improve upon it.

To be fair, normal people die in car accidents every day. A billionaire is a normal person with a ridiculous amount of money. You're right though, if one has Billions or hundreds of millions, you'd think one would be as cautious as possible. Gotta live a long time to enjoy that moolah

Imo I think Stockton did amazing things. He was able to go the Titanic which is almost like going to outer space on a very tight budget. You have to consider that even NASA had catastrophic accidents even with 10x the engineers and funding.

I just feel for the 19 year old. Evidently, he exercised common sense and expressed reluctance and terror at the prospect of this excursion. He had to follow his dad though. Probably got some talk about being brave. And here we are.

I'd agree if he didn't take 4 innocent people with him. If those texts of him cajoling others to join him are real, he even downplayed the dangers. Not cool. But definitely going to be progress made and lessons learned.

Just finished watching Deep Star 6, and Leviathan is just beginning.

Some pokey nipples were the highlight of Deep Star 6, but even cheesed out movies from 1989 are 1000x better than the garbage woke $hit we have these days.
