Having some gripes with this game.
It just feels too disjointed. The cutscenes are great and all and I absolutely love linear games .... But this game feels too linear. Like there's no realistic kind of progression from one area to the area, you just jump from place to place and the areas themselves are just so small and basically hallways or little arena's for the fights there's nothing in the way of any exploration or interesting level design. There's nothing really that interesting about these levels other than the incredible art design and graphics lol.
That disjointed feel goes to the cutscenes as well, the story set up just seems poorly executed. I feel like I'm dropped in and things are happening ... I have a rough idea of everything, but it's a bit annoying they just bring up random kingdom things and don't really explain them properly via cutscenes or the usual walk and talk expo dumps. There's a dude who gives you all the lore, but it just feels amateur and lazy if I have to go in there to understand wtf is happening ... Mass Effect did this beautifully. You were still dropped into a new strange world, but from the get go they explained everything well and you understood everything and the lore section adds more flavor, but you still get the general gist. Even FF7 Remake had a better story structure and layout and explained everything well.
The lack of any RPG elements is so fukkin disappointing ... There's no elemental weaknesses/strengths. The itemization is useless because you get a bunch of gear / swords but honestly wtf is the point if they're not doing anything interesting with them ... It's there just for the sake of it. This game is trying to be so hard to be an action game, but just tacks on these gear items which seem to have no viable benefit.
The game is still excellent and fun and I'm all in for now, but so far this just seems to be the kind of game where it's more of a visual orgasm for PS5 owners lol.
Gonna be honest, as far as gameplay, systems and the overall package goes ..FF7 absolutely mogs this game. Since the beginning as keen as I was for this game, I was still far more hyped for FF7 rebirth.

In terms of your second point, are you using active time lore? That's one of the things people rave about. Every scene that randomly comes up, use it and it explains everything right there. You don't need to go to the old guy.
Oh also how far are you no spoilers? Cause I've run into some pretty large areas that let you run around and fight freely and explore a bit.

I have been using the active lore system, but I still feel like it's clunky and my gripe is more toward the execution of the story and structure. These things could have been easily done via cutscenes ... Everything feels rushed, but at the same time it takes time... y'know? They could have spent a bit more time setting the stage for everything but it just feels like we're treated to a bunch of random cutscenes jumping from here and there.
I'm somewhat early on? I just reached the part where I got the Limit Break bar. Yeah, those open area zones are nice, but there's really nothing worth exploring or seeing.
Here's another gripe .... The sidequests are atrocious. Probably some of the worst, but then again it's square enix and for some reason they get lazy as fuk on sidequests which just become meaningless fetch quests ... even ff7 remake had it.
Honestly I think my biggest gripe with the entire game is just the combat system ... The current system is cool and flashy and feels good, but I personally don't think it's particularly fun or too engaging (unless in boss battles) ... The FF7 real time atb was too damned good for me.
I have a love/hate relationship with this series lol ... I have so many issues with their games, but at the same time I still enjoy them for what they are.

I definitely dont agree on the story though, there's so many cutscenes and they literally explain every scene with time lore if you dont know whats going on. Its very well done imo, they DO randomly cut to places at times but again, they explain it.

A game can be linear but the way Bango described areas and progression was really underwhelming and I'm inclined to believe it cus I've seen it before, I suppose assuming Final Fantasy the most known RPG franchise next game was going to be an RPG was incorrect, not everyone had followed every minor detail about it to this point

Was so fkn hyped for this game.
Come to find out it has almost no RPG element. FOH.
If I wanted to play a straight action game I'd play DMC.
No builds, no weapon variety, no fashion equipment, pointless itemization, meaningless stat upgrades, trash quests, linear game.
Why can't they just make another FF as GOAT as 12? Is it so fkn hard? Why is this Japanese company so retarded.
