Scientists say they've reached a turning point in Canser Research with vaccines
Years of research exploring mRNA vaccines for cancer treatment in preclinical and clinical trials have set the stage for the rapid development of mRNA vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therapeutic cancer vaccines based on mRNA are well tolerated, and the inherent advantage in ease of production, which rivals the best available conventional vaccine manufacture methods, renders mRNA vaccines a promising option for cancer immunotherapy. Technological advances have optimised mRNA-based vaccine stability, structure, and delivery methods, and multiple clinical trials investigating mRNA vaccine therapy are now enrolling patients with various cancer diagnoses.
Great news! What a time to be alive! ( and stay alive)

This is what the tech would've been best suited for, and what the hope was that it could be used for.
I am 100% on board with this, and a lot of people affected with cancer would definitely be on board with, even if still in experimental stage.

How much do you think companies would make from cancer vaccines?
When have pharmaceutical companies ever prioritized impact on health over company profits?

Meh, experimental stage. Never going to happen. I remember when nut job Glen Beck was crying with joy (literal [probably fake tears] tears) over a therapeutic gold injection that was supposed to cure all cancers. The guy is a ****ing loon. Everyone always touts 'the next big cancer treatment/cure' and it never happens/isn't allowed to happen.
That was like 15 years ago and now the gold nanoparticles is a silent topic.

It has been known for 150 years that infections will sometimes result in spontaneous remission of cancers. The father of immune therapy for cancer, Dr. William Colby used to inject infectious bacteria into cancers to cause fever and chills in patients. His immune therapy had high levels of success in curing patients, with 5 year survival times being 50% and higher. Some say the cure rate was around 80%.
Not sure if this vaccine idea will work or not against cancer. Hope it does.

Anything is possible if you just change definition. (Vaccines are not defined to provide immunity anymore)

Duh. Hoping mRNA vaccines can be used to prevent or treat cancer has been the end goal for a long time before Covid.
Pfizer and Moderna were put on the fast track with mRNA during COVID, with J&J's viral vector vaccine held back in the US so proof of concept could be done with mRNA vaccines. People who said the public were the trial weren't wrong. There was no good reason to push exclusively mRNA vaxes during COVID and deny others in the US except as a demonstration. The J&J was safer but it could've gotten in the way of the end goal, a green light on mRNA cancer trials. Same for Novavax, used since 2021 in other countries and the safest, but held back from the US, where mRNA for cancer trials will be primarily done.
Said cancer trials priorities meant many extra people had to die in the COVID stage of mRNA development in the hopes far more can be saved from cancer years from now. Let's hope they are a relative silver bullet on cancer or many deaths during and after COVID were for nought.

The UK trials use the same technology as the Covid vaccines. I wonder if the conspiracy theorists will squeal about these, too? Bill Gates! Microchips!
I expect that with gains in mRNA tech, along with CRISPR, and AI eventually doctors will just need to sequence a tumour, wait for an AI to generate a personalized therapy, and within 1-2 months a patient can have a personal vaccine. We look to be most of the way there with these technologies.
This is a major milestone towards a future of personalized medicine. Cancers at a particular point are so genetically heteregeneous it doesn't even make sense to call cancer a single disease. Within a decade we could even be where were at with HIV now: Not a death sentence, and demoted to a treatable chronic illness.

That aside; Sure it only took a haphazard human trial of COVID to “work out the kinks,” right?
