I was a big proponent of the Vita back in the day. Really, even after the launch of the Switch, I still pined for a Vita 2.0 or some kind of successor. This is just a slap in the face, have they announced how much this fuking train wreck is going to cost? I bet over $200. I forget what the lowest entry Steam Deck runs but it's probably going to end up being not that much cheaper.

So it's Xcloud without the Microsoft library?

If they can deliver on what Xbox lied about in making all owned games playable, I think it will be a gem.
If not, I think Xbox and Game Pass has far better games than Sony can deliver.

The real question is why would you buy this when you can already do it with your phone, a tablet, or a Steam Deck?

Even the design looks so retarded lmao. Can't wait until someone drops it a foot onto a sofa and one of the controller halves snaps off.

As much as I liked the Vita, Sony has no business in the handheld market anymore. They couldn't compete in the handheld space when it was just them vs the 3DS which their tech was far superior to. Now they'd have to deal with the Switch, Steam Deck (+ clones), and all these retro portables.

Another cash grab anti consumer move from Sony. Why not just make your games available to stream on your smartphone and other devices like Xcloud. Knowing resident sonycels, they're gonna eat this chit up. Must be nice to have such a low IQ fanbase you can practically rip off.

Pretty sure you can still use the same service with a mobile device. This is the same thing but with a dedicated device and the addition of ps5 haptics.

I don't think it's a cash grab, but it's a stupid product imo.

I had a lot of fun with the PSP back in the day. I still remember downloading pron images using the web browser, and even porn .avi vid files which the PSP could play. Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider, pretty sure I had some racing games too. Was an absolute blast.
Skipped the Vita. Now I just think handhelds are pretty cringe. As an adult I never have the time to use them. If I'm at home why would I lay in bed looking at some poverty tiny screen when I have a 65 inch and a PS5? If I'm going out I'm driving or interacting with people.

you can do the same thing on your phone right now if you wanted with the sony app.. its basically just a wii u tablet.. anyone buying this is a waste of money can you can just play it on the big screen oled

this thing is stupid.you cant use it outside of your house.you need wifi and a ps5.so its basically only useful if your taking a chit.if they could fix that then it would be fine.i loved my psp.it was modded.could get any ps1 and psp games for free.my brother has a modded vita.its awesome but it took him a long time just to find one with the right firmware to mod it.if i could find one i could mod i would buy one.the vita is still the best handheld if you can find one you can mod

You can mod pretty much any Vita now. Doesn't need to be one on the old firmware.

Just a few months ago they released a new hack that doesn't require a PC as well. It can all be done in the Vita browser.

I am getting quite sick of being "tethered" to cloud service and Internet. This causes so many more problems, even security issues. From authentication failures, to DDOS attacks, you can be more headache than it's worth. These gaming companies are also quick to handover any personal information to whoever wants it. No thanks

Bro, this is why retro gaming is becoming THE way to enjoy video games. There's loads of retro handhelds these days, basically emulation handhelds that kinda look like a PS Vita or something, and you can play loads of classics without all of this bullchit. Heck all of the older platforms should work offline no problem as well if you set them up right. This is just a part of this new school "live services" constantly being tethered to an active connection bullchit. My patience for that has really ran thin, and I'm with you in a way, if they continue on this path I am over keeping up with gaming for the most part. I'll just stick to a GamePass subscription for everything, say phuck it, and play older games.

Henderson suggests that the handheld device would support adaptive streaming up to 1080p and 60fps, and naturally,will require a persistent internet connection to function.
So, just like how the PS5 and Xbox Series X are 8K and 4k@60fps capable and throw in that it requires an online connection, it will run like piss.
Henderson does not comment on how much the device is expected to cost, but considering that Sony wasn’t afraid to pitch the PSVR 2 or the DualSense Edge controller at a premium price tag,we expect it will cost as least as much as the Nintendo Switch OLED which retails for $349.
